Card Promotions 125,000 Qantas Points and reduced first-year annual card fee with the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature (Point Hacks)

I got it earlier this year & was rather quick compared to previous cards. No more than a week, at the very latest for approval.
Then it's in Aus Post hands.

Just want to see what your opinions are about when I should apply? Should I even wait for the confirmation that the Citibank card is closed before I apply, considering that this might not show up as closed on my credit check history until a month or more later?
I closed an AMEX recently and it showed up on my credit history as cancelled in less than 1 week. So it really depends on the individual banks procedures.

If it was me, I would wait until it shows as cancelled as I prefer to take the conservative approach. Some banks, check more carefully than others. AMEX for one it seems you can tell all sorts of BS and they dont care and check nothing.

So I applied Tuesday, got call on Wednesday asking for confirmation of closure of previous credit card and some questions about home loan replacement. Uploaded the letter I got from Citibank and got approved Friday morning. Pretty quick!

Now to wait for the card to arrive next week… is there anyway I can add the card to Apple Pay and start using it before I get the physical card?

I'm pretty sure you can't. You need the details from the card - number, exp data, security code - and you still have to activate the card.

Finally cancelled my NAB Signature after 12months.
Received the 2nd allotment of 25k QF points (125K total). Annual fee was charged also, but was taken off the remaining balance to pay so got full quote of points without paying 2nd year fee.
As it was just couple days after annual fee dropped & it's paid in advance the full amount of $395 was refunded.

Did you have to ask for the annual fee refund or was it automated?
I chose to call to cancel the card. I read somewhere you can do it via bot chat, but I dislike that format.
I asked about annual fee & I was told it'll be fully refunded as it's paid in advance.
Not exaCTLY SURE WHAT WAS MEANT BY IN ADVANCE...AS IN PAID 1 MONTH IN ADVANCE??? BUT ah caps lock, fat fingers.

note; I paid it 2 days before I called to cancel.

I cancelled my NAB Signature Visa a couple of weeks ago. Today I got an emailed offer for a "new" Signature Visa card with 90,000 bonus points in the first year and 30,000 after 12 months.

The T&Cs include this clause:

This bonus Qantas Points offer is not available to existing customers who have received or are entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards bonus Points for a new personal NAB Qantas Rewards credit card in the twelve months prior to the opening of a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card, NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card or NAB Qantas Rewards Card account. This advertised offer of bonus points is not applicable or valid in conjunction with any other advertised or promotional offer. (My bolding)

If I'm reading that correctly, I would be able to receive the sign-up offer despite having just closed the exact same card! I must be missing something?

I have this card now and the 1st anniversary is due soon, I'd like to close it and sign up to a new card BUT realised that I bought flights with it and have complimentary insurance as I paid with the credit card. If I cancel my card I guess insurance won't apply, I assume. This is something to consider when jumping to another card.

is the annual fee worth the insurance or can you buy travel insurance for less than the annual fee.

I cancelled this card after 1 year ann to claim the 1st ann points & they pro-rated the entire fee back.

something to chew on for you.

I think it may be as it's an overseas trip, but may need to do some calculations as annual fee this year will be more expensive. Thanks for the tip.
