HNL now HTI. From last week October.

Seems like it’s going to NJS.

I wonder if AYQ is next, seems like a logical A220 route.

I can see a lot of similarities between Honolulu and Hamilton Island. A premium leisure destination with expensive accommodation, so it makes sense for Qantas to serve this market (attracting higher yields in the process), and for Jetstar to redirect its planes onto other routes.

FWIW Jetstar will replace the Hamilton Island flights with additional services to nearby Airlie Beach/Proserpine.

It wouldn’t surprise me if National Jet Systems have a lower cost base compared to Jetstar. I see they pay staff incredibly low wages.

A bit of capacity shifting going on for the Whitsundays.

Jetstar increases both MEL-PPP and SYD-PPP to daily services. BNE-PPP also increases to 10x weekly.

Qantas adds MEL-HTI and switches BNE-HTI to the A220. Also looks like QF end the BNE-PPP route in favour of extra JQ flights.

Woo hoo big fan of QF entering MEL HTI, now we have a better option for my parents to come up and meet us there next year!

Is there a start date for this?

Changes take effect on October 26th with the start of the NW25/26 season.

To summarise the changes:

Jetstar
  • Exits Hamilton Island
  • Increases MEL-PPP to daily (2x weekly A321 & 5x weekly A320)
  • Increases SYD-PPP to daily A321
  • Increases BNE-PPP to 10x weekly A320
  • Suspends ADL-PPP
Qantas
  • Exits Proserpine
  • Switches BNE-HTI from daily E190 to A220
  • Commences MEL-HTI 3x weekly A220

Wouldn't surprise me if they change ADL-PPP to seasonal and operate it over winter in SA.
Upon closer inspection, that appears to be the case.

ADL-PPP suspends at the end of October. Operates again briefly between mid-December and the end of January, and resumes again at the end of March 2026.

You'd never get me on a Jetstar plane to anywhere. Once was enough to last me a lifetime. Never, ever again, not even if my life depended on it.

It gets worse. Is an airline in the US called Sprit Airlines, I thought I’d seen it all with Jetstar here until I discovered Spirit. 😂

That might be a little extreme. Suirely, if your life depended on it....

I remember when JQ started HTI services, apparently a few pax on the first flight were expecting to get accommodated at the caravan park on HTI

Wouldn't matter either way I suspect. If I had to get somewhere very quickly, you would have no hope on Jetstar as you can almost guarantee they will cancel the flight at the last minute. Given a choice, I would prefer not to die on the floor in a Jetstar terminal with hundreds of other stranded passengers.

@Saab34 - yes I have read enough about Spirit Airlines to know that I would never consider them. In any case it is unlikely I will ever get back to the US, certainly not under the current regime, but my travelling days are almost over given age and mobility issues. Hope to do one more trip to the UK and that will be my swansong I suspect.

Well, we dodged a bullet there as we're flying to and from Proserpine from Canberra in late August - although we have to do the SYD-PPP leg on Jetstar, which will be a first for MrsK. She is gradually preparing herself - but she gets to recover as I snagged J rewards seats for the run home.

Interesting. I have caught around 30 JQ flights and never have a cancellation yet and the biggest delay was 35mins awaiting a crew coming in from another flight. Lucky I guess or more likely you have formed an opinon from one bad experience and that will always be the caee because you didn't try again.

Yes, one bad experience coupled with the tons of bad press they get along with all the negative comments and bad experiences mentioned in various travel forums. I tend to avoid Qantas for much the same reason, though I have had several bad experiences with them. VA, Qatar and Singapore stand out as the only airlines that have never upset me. There are others, but I have not flown them enough to have had a bad experience. Any airline can have something go wrong, but I am sure most of us will agree that it is how they treat the passengers and their efforts to minimise the inconvenience and maintain customer goodwill. That is not in Jetstar's DNA.

I find delays worse at Alliance at the moment, and those operated by older Mainline 737s. You get those those stupid 3 or 4 hour delays. Jetstar is more the 30-60 minute delay, don’t really get those big whooping delays.

Last 20 odd flights, Jetstar have had a few 30 and a 45 minute delay, Alliance E190s I’ve had a 1,2 and a stupidly long 4 hour hit. The last long delay I had like that was back when Tiger Air was around.

JQ have pretty low cancellation rates these days. 0.7 % in April - lower than both QF and QF link and same as VA.
