LATAM Airlines will resume non-stop Sydney-Santiago flights

Daily:
Interesting as well that they have fully uncoupled AKL and SYD, removing one of the cheaper ways to get across the Tasman.

And looks like SCL-MEL will become daily from December.

Dropping the AKL-SYD stub will mean some of the challenges it causes will be avoided, once my AKL stopover became an extended transit because the crew to staff the AKL-SYD leg hadn't had sufficient rest time from their previous flight, another time the whole plane had to be rebooked onto alternate flights because on arrival into AKL, they cancelled the onward SYD flight.

Looks like SCL-AKL-SYD 7/7 has become

SCL-SYD 7/7
SCL-AKL 3/7
SCL-MEL 4/7 then seasonal 7/7

Good capacity boost to Sth America.

I’m guess they are rebooking anyone who just had a TT flight on QF instead?

Not surprising LATAM cancelled Sydney-Auckland. (In my experience) Despite the plane, the service in Business was appalling. For the lunch service I received two chocolate muffins, a packet of nuts and three pieces of cut fruit. They ignored me most of the flight and only selectively offered a pre departure beverage to certain individuals in certain rows (that didn't include me). I spoke to the CSM in Auckland, who couldn't have given less of a shxt...

What a shame! I’m not sure which airline the commenter above was flying on but it was certainly not the same LATAM I’ve always flown on: It was such a good alternative over to Auckland and we have used it many times!

Recently, you even got the chance for one of their upgraded seats which are amongst the best staggered configs out there and J food on the Syd-Akl leg had improved too (last time I had this lovely steak pictured below). And I had always liked their Latina service and South American wines which was a bit different from all the other airlines out there.

I see some $A5000 Biz type deals offered SYD-SCL right now, which seems very cheap to me.

Do they use the new seats 787s on the SYD route?

It seems if I book LATAM flights direct, with Latam flight number, there are no QF points earned on that basis?

Is there any other useful top of line airline partner that the points can be directed to?

LA flight number earns QFF pts (reduced rate) but no SCs.

AS or DL?

I credit to DL - LA flights count towards both annual status and Million Miler accumulation. I think the same works for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and AFKL Flying Blue (at least status wise)

Thanks for input folks. :D

Oddly I see the same $A5000 RT Biz tickets showing them as a QF operated flight SYD-SCL? (On some days the same sort of price is SYD-MEL-SCL in Biz.)

Do QF still run SCL flights on their own metal, or is this always just a codeshare on LA metal?

If I book it with the QF flight number, surely it earns normal QF SC?

QF and LA both operate flights and codeshare with each other.

Yes, if you book either with a QF code you’ll earn full SCs and points.

Many thanks.

Latam use 787-900 and biz seats look pretty modern - what aircraft do Qantas use on the route does anyone know?

If you are lucky they will be at the same price. But whenever I look, the LA fares are 20-25% cheaper, personally the QF SC and Pesos aren't worth the difference.
Precovid, each would sell the other cheaper during Sales. Probably to fill their “blocks” on the other metal.

I’ve not looked too closely since - been using points for QF J flights there because $ fares are still about $1k more than precovid Sales.

Oddly the QF versions are generally $100 or so cheaper which I agree seems odd, even the ones that route me via MEL needlessly. See screen grab above.

If it was 10-20% difference I'd not think twice about it, but prices are line ball pretty much from my late Aug/early Sept dates at about the $5000 level per person all in. Not bad for 15 hours flying each way.

Adding on LIMA adds only another $100 each way, so even better. Seeing Chile VISA for ozzies are still an insane $180 each, and Peru charges nothing, a total gimme add-on flight

As long as the Qantas 787s are not with older generation biz seats it seems a no-brainer?

Have zero Status with Qantas and after the appalling mess Virgin have created this year, like many others I am done with them after 10+ straight years as a Plat.

One return flight biz using QF flight codes will give us both QF silver it looks like, which is pretty meaningless I realise, but with a bunch of points too, good for a domestic award flight sometime, is worth doing. :D
