I saw that ... the fares are from $1099 ...

Delta is also spruiking it.

arrrgh i have just booked Mel-LAX on the 6th! I've now registered, do you think there's any chance of them giving me the points earn if I call up and plead my case?

If you don't get the points contact them and tell them you activated the offer from the email when you received it.
The offer came out on the 4th July.

Anybody have a handle on what a good priced freedom fare is Melb/Syd to LAX? Unlikely to find the promo worthwhile but looking down the road on an upgradable fare

I believe Freedom fares are always roughly the same price for lead in. Circa $1,200 - $1,400 each way.
Any sales are sold as a Getaway fare.
So the fare you see today for Freedom is unlikely to reduce. The only way to reduce is a promo code.

Wonder if this is like other promos where the booking T&Cs are more kind (i.e. bookings by one's preferred travel agent also counts)
