There are also twitter replies from both airlines hinting the upcoming partnership.

This would be one of the bigger cross alliance partnerships (comparing to QF/EK, QR/VA and SQ/GA to name a few examples) out there should it assumably be announced on September 14.

It sort of all pointing to the idea that the global alliances, which are really just there for transatlantic travel, are becoming less and less relevant. Move beyond TATL and all bets are off.

Seems reasonably unexciting.

The main points are:
  • EK and UA will have an interline agreement
  • United will launch a non-stop EWR-DXB flight
  • Emirates Skywards members can soon earn miles when they travel on United operated flights
  • United Mileage Plus members flying on United’s New York/Newark to Dubai flight will be able to earn and redeem miles when connecting beyond on Emirates and flydubai
  • Eligible customers travelling on codeshare flights will also soon enjoy access to Emirates and United lounges
