Of course it's better but it ends on the 31st December 2011, so I wouldn't even get a normal bill between now and then to pay!

The Velocity offer is ongoing and doesn't have an end date

I'd rather take 2 years of 6x Velocity points then 0 x 10 Amex points!

Hmmm yeh good point!! :)

From what I see on their web site, Lumo don't offer the Qld FiT, so anyone with a solar panel array on their roof will most likely be considerably worse off. Vic seems to be the only state they offer a FiT and even then it's only 1 for 1.

I also note on Switchwise, their customer service rating is only 2 star. My current provider (Origin) pays me $0.50/kWh as a FiT and has a 4 star customer service rating, which not surprisingly for the electricity retail market, is the highest achieved (according to Switchwise only Origin and Tru Energy achieves 4 stars). Lumo, incidentally, is the dearest of the non-greenpower retailers who only achieve 2 stars!

I have not had any problems with Origin (although I do recognise that others will have) and I do have a solar array (and hope to extend that soon) so I'll be sticking with Origin. Lumo was also marginally dearer than Origin (not by much).

I was considering the switch to Lumo but after reading some of the customer complaints on their Facebook page, I decided to stay put. Whilst customer complaints with AGL (whom I'm with) may indeed be just as bad, I've not had any major dramas with them. My concern about switching was going from being 'content' (if I can call it that) with my current provider to possibly being 'unhappy' with Lumo either because of being overcharged or because to poor service (both of which seemed to be the major issues with Lumo) and being stuck in a 24 month contract!

I get .60/kWh from Lumo (in Vic) but I have had to chase it with each bill thus far.

Thanks for the anecdotal evidence Bill! I was purely going from their web site, which as far as I can see, only refers to Vic for a FiT and then only 1 for 1. The fact you have to fight them for it each quarter, suggests many people not quite as astute, may not receive their payment .

It comes through as 1:1 OK and then I just send the contact manager an email, pay what I believe is correct and it sorts out the following month.

FWIW AGL pays 66c/kWh in Vic so this may work out better for some. Be aware that their standing charges are higher though.

Do you also send them an invoice for accounting services to rectify their errors? :D

I wonder if these type of issues are a foreboding indication of whether the said Velocity points will be actually credited or whether everyone is expected to chase them every quarter. I know myself, I wouldn't want to be burdened by that even though I'd love the 6x Velocity points. Time will tell I guess!

I'm more than happy to pass on my contact's details if it becomes necessary. I got the details after an Ombudsman's complaint :!:

Reading the Facebook comments does make me laugh..

A complaint about a high gas bill! Not that hard to check your meter and work out how much you have used

A complaint about their rates being higher than others, well it's not their (Lumo's) job to tell you who is cheaper

A complaint about the Solar Tariff, I have no idea there so I won't comment

So all the complaints are about big bills and/or disconnection notices...

I'll see what happens but Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria) is always there ;)

They have accepted Amex for over a year now, they started on the 6th October 2010

Any happy Lumo customers out there???

FWIW, I signed up for this new Lumo deal a couple of weeks ago and got through within a minute or two. A very friendly customer service rep took me through the application and organised a meter reading for the following day, as it was a new rental property. Called back the next day after the meter reader had visited to clarify a few details - again, all sorted within a few minutes and with a minimum of fuss. The rates were cheaper than AGL and Origin in my area and the six points per dollar really sealed the deal for me. Granted, this service was provided through a dedicated line (the one listed on the website) and no doubt when the 10,000 point promotion ends all enquiries will be directed back through the main line, but so far I have nothing but good things to say about their service. Provided they don't screw up my bill or anything like that, I can see myself being a long-term customer.

Agreed - Even with a bill issue, if they don't fix it fast I'll just lodge a case with the ombudsman!

I took up the offer despite what others have said about Lumo's poor service and billing issues. I'll deal with these issues if and when they arise.

The 10,000 bonus velocity points + 6 points per dollar spent + being able to pay by Amex is an offer too good to refuse!

Does anyone know if this offer applies to business electricity accounts? I forgot to ask when I spoke to Lumo today.

Rang up today to switch a family member to Lumo.

Again the call centre was in Melbourne, but not annoying delay in the conversation this time!

Swapped over the family member in 5 minutes!

Well knock me down with a feather!

My meter was read on the 7th, and the 10K bonus points posted today. That's 7 days. Which is impressive :)

Okay so I received the welcome letters for 2 properties that I signed across for myself.

Only one has received the "Velocity" deal, the other just a standard one....

So I'll need to call them..

Is this the start of their bad customer service ?

contract time is the only problem

Any provider is going to want you on a contract. Its only $120 (from memory) to break the contract, worth the risk for the $10k points at startup and $24k points I'll earn per year.

So almost a week later I am still fighting with Lumo

They really do have the worst customer service.

I was told when signing up by 2 people who both confirmed it with their "manager" that I could claim 10,000 points for multiple properties as long as the Velocity number was different, but the same Surname.

Now I am being told that it's 10,000 points ONCE only
I am also told that the first address I signed up is NOT on the Velocity offer, even though it is.

They have NO idea what they are doing on the phone.

Currently been on hold 10 minutes while this rep talks to their "manager" about my issue

As they tell me ALL calls are recorded so I really hope they can go back to their recordings.

Okay - Now off hold.. I was told that I can get the 10,000 points twice and that I am definitely on the Velocity offer, even though the Welcome letter states otherwise.

Can't wait for my first bill

10,000 points have appeared in my first account for this promo!

Thanks Lumo!

Now to wonder about the first bill.......

I have now received the other 10,000 points for my other property.

So 20,000 points received (to separate Velocity accounts)

I have also received both final bills from my current provider, as Lumo offered a special meter read so that I would be with Lumo ASAP.

I am now earning 6 Velocity points per $1 and 1.5 Amex points per $1.
