Even partial points/cash combo redemptions don't accrue points... not even on the cash part. :-(

re : access to airport lounges

If you have a Platinum Amex card, you now have access to US Air's lounges, regardless of which airline you are actually travelling with. American Express and US Airways Partner to Add US Airways® Club Access for Platinum Card® & Centurion® Members | Business Wire I've confirmed with Amex's...

    Credit card-style room keys

I highly doubt this is true. The card should only have a code which marries up with the same code sent to the door (which can be changed at any time by front office staff if need be... e.g. lost card, eviction)

    Which carrier to use

If he does end up flying Qantas, get him to join QFF anyway (it will cost nothing if he uses his UK address). He should earn about 19500 points for LHR-PER (via SIN) and MEL-LHR When he gets home, he can order his Mum a $100 gift card for 13500 points (or if he makes it to 20250 points, he can...

    BPay problems @ QF

Comm Bank had a major Bpay outage on Monday and Tuesday. One of my bills paid early Tues morning didn't go through until last night. Would this be what caused your QF problem? Evan :->

    Earning FF points by BPAY

Not all Bpay billers accept credit card payments. Those that do should do so as a purchase (not a cash advance) and since Amex isn't part of Bpay, you will probably only earn points at the Visa rate. At least that is my experience with Comm Bank Evan :->

Can I take photos in the aircraft?

I had the same issue at Eurovision in Helsinki in 2007. Ticket said no cameras allowed at all. Go to the checkpoint and a big sign said "Commercial type" cameras were not allowed (meaning small cameras were ok.... and everyone else had cameras) Had to jump in a taxi back to the hotel to grab...

    Free Giant Toblerone...

Ewwww. Check the Use-by date. Bet it expires within a month or so. Saw a similar promo at a Brisbane railway station. $2 Maltesers in a vending machine (reduced from about $3 from memory). They expired within a month. Evan :->

    Man Pounces on Tiger Terminal

Apparently he was found in the building when police arrived. He couldn't work out how to get out! This is a perfect example of why security of airport buildings should be done solely by AFP and not outsourced to 3rd party security companies.

    Man Pounces on Tiger Terminal

According to Nine's Gold Coast News last night, he was annoyed at missing an international flight with another airline (not Tiger) and took it out on Tiger (for some/no apparent reason). They also showed some poor bugger who arrived on time at the Tiger Terminal (T3), but by the time he walked...

Can I take photos in the aircraft?

I never see them either....seen the signs in both SYD and BNE... maybe I should pack copious amounts of dried fruit.... then I'll see them.... or perhaps undeclared cough ;-)

    Availability of Award Flights

That's true.... should have mentioned that.... could have reduced it to anything as long as the 60k points minimum was met :-)

    Availability of Award Flights

And be careful when selecting flights. Jetstar flights = 0 points accrued (in discount economy) I could have gone via Darwin, but SIN-DRW is Jetstar.

    Availability of Award Flights

Hi A380First.... welcome to AFF :-) From memory my BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE flights were ~91000 points, reduced to 69218 when I paid $245 in taxes (as quoted on the Classic Award booking... could have reduced it to anything of course). According to the Earning Points Calculator, I'll earn 8722 points...

Can I take photos in the aircraft?

At the airport, the only restriction would be Customs & Immigration areas (there's usually plenty of signs around advising you of this). You'd only get a polite tap on the shoulder and insistence that footage be deleted before they get to the confiscation stage (I'm sure there are plenty of...

    Availability of Award Flights

Since the ability to accrue QFF points, some Any Time seats are quite attractive (and some still aren't!) Here's a tip to booking Any Time seats: Assuming you are flying SYD-LHR, a Classic Award ticket will cost 128000 points and $427.30 in tax. On an Any Time ticket, you will accrue 21172...

Odd math on Jetstar payment page - credit card fee added twice for one way fare??

The same thing happened to me when booking a $3 ticket last week. It kept asking me to pay an extra $7 after already paying the full cost including surcharges (albeit, the total cost was only $33 NTL-BNE-NTL). Confirmed with my bank that only $33 was charged. Evan :->

    Sim card in usa

The reason for that is that Rogers is a Canadian telco (and Vancouver is in Canada). Despite Seattle only being a few hours away, it's across the border in the US. You also wont get any US telcos in Canada (but roaming works).
