Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

Having a look this is all I found from the latest report this year. Jetstar Japan share of profits materially benefited from +$22m FX gain on lease liabilities I’m no expert on FX, but it appears GK leases its fleet (orders are not from the QF book) and then re leases onto JQ. I’m not sure...

Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

The profit bit seems to be always connected to foreign exchange or leasing. Jetstar Asia was profitable in a few years for those reasons also. The current FY it was his noted as the Japan business is ‘on track’ to be profitable for this FY. If anything perhaps JAL would take full control...

Alaska Airlines to acquire Hawaiian Airlines

It would be sad to see the end of the Eskimo and Hawaiian girl, but I guess it sort of inevitable in the longer run. Some new era of management in the future if not current, will no doubt make one brand. The new 787 livery doesn’t do much for me. Love the Eskimo tail.

Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

I wonder how much longer the Japan experiment will last

Alaska Airlines to acquire Hawaiian Airlines

I’d imagine in the long run the HA branding will eventually go.

Jetstar no longer selling Max bundle in Economy

I think a lot of people get caught out with those bundles, to the airlines advantage, that is for those people that simply want a seat plus bag only. That is all my old folks want but have been buying the bundles because they are on the first page, they didn’t know you could buy bare fare plus...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I changed my phone number and email a few months back, the first change in probably 20 years. I then changed passwords on all accounts. I started getting some small hints earlier this year, unauthorised transactions appearing on banking, not to mention dozens of spam calls weekly. I feel like...

Jetstar to Operate from T2 at Singapore from 2026

Surely MEL-SIN is a route on borrowed time on JQ.

Virgin Australia changes to carry on baggage allowance effective 2 Feb 2026

Unless someone is moving house via Virgin those allowances are just stupid. Why on earth would someone need 160kg?

Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

A320s now starting to go. VH-VNF has left PER-OOL-APW. Have many memories in this aircraft when we flew Tiger a bit during the first year or two. Photo from 2008 below.

Virgin Australia changes to carry on baggage allowance effective 2 Feb 2026

A few months ago I witnessed a what appeared to be 10kg plus bag drop on someone’s head. The said passenger threatened legal action to the staff, he wasn’t happy. Possibly a legal minefield also this topic.

Jetstar Asia to shutdown on 31 July 2025

Apparently the list of issues, or MEL I think they call them, are quite long on a few of them.

    MEL taxi scam

The Victorian government surely would have levers to pull if they could’ve half coughd. The state is in such a mess that these sort of matters don’t get any attention. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a big difference.

Why can't VA offer multi city including international flights?

I agree that it doesn’t appear like much has changed considering the investment, but it was probably more updating outdated software, they did call out everything was like a decade behind in that department. No point behind the scenes things flow better. To show how bad it was, when Bain picked...

    Jetstar B787 Reliability Issues

I would probably be mindful booking anything for 2026 on the 787, changes to schedules with the fleet cycling heavy checks and modifications should be expected, especially if they don’t run on time, or have unexpected issues pop up. Not sure how much buffer they have in the schedule, with the...

Why can't VA offer multi city including international flights?

I asked this to someone from the commercial team when I was sitting next to them on a Sydney flight (he was asking me for feedback). He said such a platform required significant investment and the company didn’t have the capital for it at the time. That was pre pandemic. I didn’t know how...

    Qantas forgot to deduct points?

I’ve had luck with something similar once. Upgraded but they never took the points, flew in the said cabin. It’s been a few years they have not come knocking yet. I have cancelled two classic rewards last year, they also didn’t apply the penalty. Probably just second rate IT systems at play...
