    Ask The Pilot

I’m sure they’d love to be able to, but I suspect that they’re aware of the ramifications. Not only would there be push back from the pilot body, but I’m sure the regulator would become heavily involved. The law regarding fuel orders is pretty clear.

The LEAP engine can go up to 32k lbs...at which point, at 737-10 MTOW, it would have exactly the same thrust to weight ratio as a 757 with RR engines at MTOW. I suspect the 757 might be able to go a bit further though. But, wouldn't a nice modern update of the 757 be something.

Possibly worth noting that the climb and descent phases of the flight aren't considered for the application of ETOPs. So, that can potentially change your geometry by a hundred NM or so. Not always possible though. For instance, taking a large jet to Tahiti, you probably cannot carry a full...

    Qantas' New A321XLR

When an aircraft does its first flight, it’s only complete as far as the aviation bits are concerned. The cabin fit out may not have started at all.

    eSims, what is your experience.

“Up to” is the new “buyer beware”.

    Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

Sign used to happen over in the offices off Burke Road, and then the crews were bused over to the terminals. But, some genius worked out that you could save some $ by pushing the time taken to actually get into the terminal from the QF sheet on to the crew themselves...by simply moving sign in...

    eSims, what is your experience.

In NZ recently, and we had our phones on the same sort of data only esim from simify.com. Did the job.

QF37 to QF1 transfer in SIN

That would be a rare outcome, and not something you could ever rely on. Is catching the jet out of Sydney an option? Such a pity that service out of Melbourne was canned, just to make the Perth 787 look better.

Any time frame on when WiFi will appear on Qantas 787s long haul?

So, in 24 hours you went from flying with QF on a direct flight at what appears a reasonable price, to bashing them and taking an indirect (and presumably much longer) flight, because you’ll be cut off from the net for a few hours. Whilst you may tell us that your time on the flight is valuable...

Looks like that engineering tape covering up stone chips. Can’t say I’ve ever seen it before, but I doubt that it’s anything other than paint damage.

I wonder what their plan is for the crew sign on. If it's the place I'm thinking off, it contained a number of the base management peoples' offices and sign on and briefing areas for both pilots and cabin crew.

Any time frame on when WiFi will appear on Qantas 787s long haul?

Starlink only started their integration program in 2022. QF signed the Viasat contract in 2016. As of now, about 500 aircraft worldwide are fitted for Starlink, but the queue is at least 2,000 places long. It might be incompetence (I always think that when considering AJ or his acolytes), but...

Would their job be worth aspiring to…? For those thinking of building their own A380(etc) or 777(etc), this selection of gear is quite amazing. It would have been really useful back in the days when I was first learning about FMCs. winwingsim.com

    The FR24 appreciation thread

At a guess, ATC manning issues, resulting in closure of some airspace. Or, as an alternative, they were lost. Were the other flights mentioned, earlier, or at the same time?

Engagement surveys are, at best management b/s. I'm sure they cost money, but they go on and on, year after year. A recent question and response (which I stole off a QF forum): Q. Describe, in a few words, what you like best about the company. A. V1.

Like all things, they vary. There have been some outstanding ones, and others about as useful as a chock. Mostly in my time they were pretty decent though.

    Ask The Pilot

Unless things have changed dramatically, as a pilot you never have any interaction with HR. About the one time I can recall them calling me, my response was of two words, and I never heard from them again. Re standby though, you’re supposed to make sure your phone is charged! If you need to...

    Ask The Pilot

What is very much forbidden is making any serviceable system unserviceable, just so that you can apply an MEL. And in this case, making a working warning system U/S, because you don't like the readings, is beyond dumb. I can see that an MEL may be appropriate for a vibration monitoring system...

    Ask The Pilot

It was stable, and I'm sure they were prepared for things to get worse. QF long haul FO's are legally allowed to be acting in command in the cruise, so you could reasonably expect the FO/SO to be able to handle things. It becomes an assessment of whether having that break will make a difference...
