Qantas Sydney International Business Lounge

Time to start booking through Melbourne.

Shouldn't impact Platinum, P1 or Chairmans lounge pax or anyone flying first if they are just closing the Business Lounge and First Lounge remains open.

They might have to send Business Class passengers and Gold pax to partner lounges like Emirates, The House or maybe even AirNZ or Plaza Premium.

I imagine free lounge passes from credit cards etc will become temporarily ineligible for use at T1; and possible more strict enforcements of guesting rules.

The best interim solution would be to send some of the Business Lounge-eligible crowd to the EK lounge, which could then open for much longer hours, and is quite a decent lounge. Win, win! Perhaps J pax to the EK lounge, Platinums/Emeralds in Y to the old bunker lounge (which has a good view of the 30-gates at fuselage level).

Finally gave in and for the first time in a decade flew QF J international in March.
I don't get the QF mindset. Melbourne business lounge domestic catering was a light year ahead of that in the Syd international lounge.
For the record I fly J a lot on my own dime, post little, and will hit Emerald (JAL Diamond) in July.

Jeeeezus. That's not a compliment for Melbourne. That's a death knell for Sydney.

In theory. I'll wait to see it happen in practise, dude. Auckland took long enough.
Just going by this:

Looooooong overdue of course. Fingers crossed.

I wonder what their plan is for the crew sign on. If it's the place I'm thinking off, it contained a number of the base management peoples' offices and sign on and briefing areas for both pilots and cabin crew.

I was enroute to YVR, depature was 3am YVR local so I was hoping to grab "dinner" in SYD before the flight and skip the onboard meal in favour of sleep time to align with my destination. WRONG!

Just going by this:

Aye - but if they start letting J passengers into QFF, it'll be hats off in the ring, mate.

Maybe they'll start doing it on the tarmac.

Although I'd rather they commandeered VH's office in Mascot then bussed everyone out.

Cut down the fat, and I imagine the cash saved would probably mean there was more than enough to pay to accommodate everyone while QF J is being refurbished...

(Yes, I am a cynic)
