Anyone else find they fly a lot more than they ever imagined?

Febs - short answer, yes. See my first post of AFF, at which time I was just about to qualify for Silver status. I made gold the next year ('06), and have been there ever since (and up until Nov '09). I'm boasting, but not bad for someone who used to drive from Syd to Mel for a monthly sales...

Unscheduled toilet stop for Qantas jet

SMH.com.au has now amended the report to read 737 (and 737-300) in pars one and two. Having said that, is there a chance it's still wrong? I would've thought Honolulu to Sydney would be a bit of a strecth for a 737...as would be SEVEN toilets?! Perhaps mistaken with a 767-300 (which Qantas...

    Safety Announcement

And am I correct in saying the QF safety video is voice-overed by Angela Catterns, the long time ABC radio presenter (although I think she's now with Vega FM - Sydney based FF's will soon correct me if I'm wrong)!

    (More) bikes on planes

Thanks, JG1. Yes, I too long for the simpler world of cardboard bike boxes, but have you ever seen one of the Qantas-branded ones (they cost about $15)? They're huuuge, and I guess that's my only reassurance - that if my new super-dooper case is smaller than the Qantas box, I should be...

    (More) bikes on planes

Hi all, Another question re taking bikes on planes. We've discussed this before (see here) but just seeking some thoughts on my current situation! Usually, when I take my bike on planes (and I can only speak for QF), I wrap it all up and chuck it into a nice cardboard bike box. Total...

    Never Flown & Nervous

Agent 009, FWIW, JohnK's response above is a good example of the value I get from these forums. It's nice to know that a Platinum level flyer (which mean a LOT of flying) still gets nervous, and I'm (or you) are not the only ones that get anxious about getting on a plane! Thanks JohnK!

    Never Flown & Nervous

G'day Agent009, Good on you for being so bold and taking up the challenge - your partner will love you even more for it (France AND Italy? Niiice!), and in the grand scheme of things, 22 hours (or however long it takes) is pretty small fry. However, as an (ex) nervous flyer myself, I know...

QF Gold FF - Business luggage tags or Priority Tags

Nah - I thought the bags marked 'First' and 'Priority' etc. were the ones that the handlers chucked in extra hard! Just like the golden rule of 'the more fragile stickers are put on your suitcase - the further it gets thrown/kicked/dragged/etc.'!

QF Gold FF - Business luggage tags or Priority Tags

On more than a few occassions travelling Y class from Perth to Canberra, I've been given the yellow 'First' tags. Didn't make any difference to how quickly the bags appeared, although there's been lots of 'ooh' and 'ahhs' from visitors who've seen the tags (now stuck to my fridge)!

    Qantas jet in scare landing......

I agree with Chrisb and I wonder how many times other potentially serious incidents happen behind the scenes that pax are not told about? (Although as not the most confident flyer around, I think I'd be happy to be kept in the dark...pardon the pun in this particular case.)

What Drugs/Medicine Do You Take With You When Travelling

0.5mg Xanax (alprozolam) for most flights over half an hour. It's allowed me to go from someone who couldn't get on a plane in 2004 to FF Gold for the second year running in 07-08.

    Qantas Business Travel Show

Sorry - I'm in Canberra, and the lunch/show is scheduled for Thursday 25 October, at the National Convention Centre.

    Qantas Business Travel Show

Hi all, Just got into the office this morning to find an invite (via email) to come along to the Qantas Business Travel Show lunch in late October. Their regional biz manager is hosting it, and apparently, it's a means of saying thanks for the gazillion miles I feel like I've flown in the past...

Qantas to unveil new logo, kangaroo and all

Will be interesting to see if they extend the logo revision to the rest of their corporate identity/marketing communication products (the website in particular, but also BPs, signage, etc.), and when and how quickly this will happen. I was talking to a colleague last week about when Telecom...

    Anyone Scared of Flying?!

Hi all, Good topic and interesting responses! I first started poking around AFF (in Oct 2005) as I'd just taken a new job that required a fair amount of air travel. Not bad...unless you were like me and scared sh-tless of flying. Until taking the job, I hadn't flown for some 8 years -...

    'Tier Retain Bonus Status Credits'?

Perhaps, but if QF based my future business on past flying patterns (ie, 3-4 flights per month) they'd know that I probably won't have an issue requalifying... Still, it's nice to know that my 47.5 flights between CBR and MEL over the past few months have been duly recognised!

    'Tier Retain Bonus Status Credits'?

Hi all, Just wasting some time on Qantas site, and came across the following in my online FF activity statment: 'Tier Retain Bonus Status Credits - 25 [status credits added to my account]' Anyone know what this means, or why I've rec'd them? As background info, I'm FF Gold, have earned...

    Yet another seating question ;)

Hi Josh, Don't know if you are travelling with a better half, but if so, row 71 - seats A, B or K and J - are worth considering. These are waaaaay down the back of the plane, but the config is 2/aisle/4/aisle/2 (unlike the rest of economy, which is 3/aisle/4/aisle/3), so you don't have to...

    Flight Tracking Website

Thanks Mal; that's the one (I didn't want to put in my original post that, "from memory, the site had a lot of yellow on it"...). Ha ha, and thanks!

    Flight Tracking Website

Hi all, and hope things are going well. A somewhat strange question - I was looking through the forums the other day, and someone had (in their signature block) a link to a site on which you could set up a profile, and enter details of all your flights. It would then aggregate the data to...
