Hi all,
I'm new so please be kind =)
I'm due to fly on Qantas QF93 MEL-LAX in August and noticed theres a few economy seats upstairs now.
I'm able to advance select seats 34 F/G but worried how close it is to the toilet and even people grabbing onto the back of the seat while they mill near the toilet.

Has anyone had any experience sitting up there? Is it worth sitting here over a regular pov economy seat downstairs?

Hi there, welcome to AFF:D

I would guess you are SG, the upper deck is supposed to be pretty good if you can't get the good seats downstairs.

Can you get an A/B or J/K pair?

Thanks for the welcome Serfty =)

Yes I am SG (I had to look that up!). In seat selection I can only get the pair 34F/G which i've selected for the moment (still plenty in normal economy downstairs if someone convinces me these aren't any good), unless i opt to fork out $180 per seat emergency in that row 35. I have same issue with these seats, worried about getting knocked as people passing by to the loos. I've read a few other threads and looks like most of the non-emergency Y class seats are gone already =(

Do you think some of these other seats (AB or JKs) might be reserved for platinum members, and closer to the date might open up?

Thanks for link DC3, photos are exactly the seat map i'm looking at. Looks like theres good chance people would be milling just between those seats and the emergency row behind it.

I'd rather opp for a fairly quiet area to sleep with less leg room, over somewhere someones going to bump me regularly. i've got a few hours of driving after landing in LA to do and need the sleep!

On QF93 aren't the upper deck PE seats behind the "J"cabin ??

Yes they are on all the 380's, however a growing number of the 380's have a small economy section behind the PE section.

AFAIK the configs aren't locked into certain routes as such, but where needed.

The confusion comes from the upstairs Y seat numbers being similar to the old PE seat numbers on the old config

Yes expert flyer shows 380 on QF2 seat map has economy seats at back of upper deck, however Expert flyer and seat guru for same flight have no economy in upper deck. With this sort of misinformation how credible is any info on these sites?!

There are still two aircraft yet to get a y upper deck and they can operate any flight.

Ok but expert flyer is supposed to give info from the airline and looking at seat map it ha the y upper deck seats for this flight, mind you it also show almost every seatexcept the booked ones as blocked. They say their info is direct from airline and. Thats what subscribersnpay for. But seat guru and seat expert show a different map. They can't both be right! Meantime what use is any. Of this in making a decision?!

If your booked on the flight a simple check at qantas.com would show the config, and its likely to be the same as expert flyer. Seat guru does not drill down to a specific config for the flight, just the type.

Seat guru and seat expert aren't that great of a resource.

The thing to remember with expert flyer is that show the info that QF provides, and as such the map may change due to the small number of old configs still flying around.

I have deleted your duplicate question asked in another thread. Only need to ask it once.

Note that ExpertFlyer uses your QF FF number (if you add it to you profile settings) to query Qantas for the seat map that applied to you specifically. That means it will present the blocked seats as they apply to your QFF account. Without including your QFF number in your ExpertFlyer profile, you get the generic view of blocked and available seats that would be seen by any non-status passenger.

Yes but the idea of being able to use expert flyer is to be able to check these details before you book th flight. It may for example lead one to spring for PE if seating looks very bad. I have a held booking for economy but just wanted to see if the flight is heavily booked or if any reasonable seats are available inY etc or if flight very full etc if it looks bad I'd change to Y+. thats my point ithat I can't rely on this info and once I book Y its tool late to then take up Y+. makes sense to me!

Ok thanksmfor that though now my reply to the other thread makes no sense!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Expertflyer should reflect what Qantas show on your seatmap, its easy to check by seeing if both show upper deck Y re the different configs. Seatmaps are not a good indication of full flights, the available tickets in various classes is and this is available from Expertflyer, Flightstats etc.

I am not sure why you feel inclinded to think Expertflyer is wrong, when the other sources you are quoting are generic whilst the definitive source is actually the airline seat map.

Also note, that with ExpertFlyer, there is currently an issue with QF economy seat maps on the 388.

Apparently you need to remove your QFF number to get it to provide a seat map currently:
If you have an issue using ExpertFlyer, the first thing you should do is email us at [email protected] and ask us. This happens to be an issue where if you have a saved QF frequent flyer number in your ExpertFlyer preferences then Qantas has issues returning the Economy seat map of an A380. The seat map will show if you remove the QFF# from your profile.

Thanks - funny then that it tells you on EF that you should enter your FF details, for better results! Also other replies on another thread have explained the many blocked seats on the fact that my status is too low, how would EF know that if I don't have FF in? :)

Because it shows the seats available for the lowest status only as a default, which makes sense.

I know this question may have been answered before but I can't find a definitive answer:

Are silvers allowed to pick row 33 or 36? I don't want the exit row or the bulkhead but would love to get these seats if they are available. Are these only available for Platinums or Golds or have silvers had experiences that they were available? Thanks

Looking at an E/F seat map, 'no status' can get row 36. Unfortunately there's a bug currently that an Economy 388 seat map might not be returned if there a QFF number in the E/F profile.
