Compression socks for flying

Many years ago before I started flying a lot I tried Jobst compression stockings as my legs would swell a lot. The stocking were just below the knees and shifted the swelling to aound the knees.

I now have swelling in the feet, ankles and calf area and the swelling can get bad in flight. At this stage I don't want to try compression stockings again.

There are different grades of compression socks. The flight socks by Scholl obviously aren’t as tight or restrictive as they are comfortable to wear and make a huge difference to flight comfort… no sore legs, no sore ankles, no swelling. I don’t have any medical conditions.

I dont consider experience swelling from flying normal, certainly nothing I've ever experienced and I done plenty of LH flights in whY (including LHR-PER, SYD-DFW/DFW/SYD). Id be looking for an underlying undiagnosed medical condition.

I've been wearing Jobst JOBST UltraSheer Knee High 15-20mmHg Compression Stockings for a few years on flights over 2 hours. They definitely reduce my ankle swelling.

Have also been wearing almost daily for the past 4 months because of referred back/hip/leg pain. (Don't ask☹️) I do notice the difference on the odd day when I don't wear them. They are robust, no signs of wear considering I'm rotating through 4 pairs.

I use compression stockings from Chemist Warehouse on all long haul flights, and use the above application to put them on. Slide the stocking over the plastic applicator, slip your foot in and pull up. I put them on before leaving home, and pack it in my checked luggage. Very easy to use. They are called Ezy-As Stocking applicator. Don't know the cost as my physio gave me mine

We always use the compression socks my husband received from hospital visits. They take a bit of work to put on, but we don't get the swelling for long haul flights.

Mrsoatek and myself have been using compression stockings on long-haul flights for at least a decade. She following knee surgery, and myself when the husband of a colleague, and also another close friend, both had DVT in the same year. They go on at the airport and come off at the destination accommodation. Now well into my 70s I am inclined to keep using them for all future long-haul. I roll the stocking down to the foot, put my foot in, and roll the stocking back up. Bit of a struggle with my arthritic fingers, but to my mind also good insurance.

Yes, we’ve been using them for any flight over 4 hrs for something like 20 years, originally as an antiDVT precaution.

We have been using compression socks for years. Sure a little tight to put on and tend to leave them pushed down when in the airport and pull them back up to knee hight when on the aircraft. MrsN, works in health, originally wanted them for flights but now we use them on trains or buses for any journey over 3-4 hours, IME they are not uncomfortable. On my most recent adventure to the UK I used compression socks on the train from London to Edinburgh, the train seats did not go flat.
