Plane Spotters

No service in those.

Listened to ABC radio this morning and they advised the flight had been cancelled yesterday-no new schedule released yet

A barrel roll is more than 1g....

But beyond that, there is no such thing as a gentle Hornet pilot.
2-3 G’s but a minimum of 0.5 G’s anyway enough so my Martini doesn’t spill. Lol, anyway being tall, I would not fit inside a Hornet.

So the point is Mute now.

Although I have always loved aviation, and especially military stuff, I have almost never had the opportunity to see real planes close up. A few years ago I was on a small commercial flight in Queensland - had a short stopover somewhere (Gladstone? can't remember this moment) But it was an airport where we had to walk across the tarmac from the plane to the airport itself. Whilst doing this a couple of F-15's took off - maybe Japanese? Who else operates these that does exercises in Australia? They were not yank. The thing that left me awestruck was the power. One of them trundled "slowly" along the airstrip, just sort of limped into the air, high angle of attack but appearing laboured or bored, then suddenly when about a 100 foot or so above ground level the pilot hit the throttle and the thing suddenly flew like an angry missile. Absolutely awesome :)

I think the most likely non US operator would be the Singaporeans, who fly the F15E....the bomber version.

Saw something similar whilst serving at the Naval Air Station at Nowra during a joint exercise. A couple of F111s took off as part of a serial, and did much the same. Not only was the power obviously evident, much more evident was the almighty roar which came with it. The ground literally shook. As you said - awesome!

The most memorable noise I experienced was from standing on the airport apron and listening to the sound of a BA Super VC10 taking off from Perth Airport at 03:00 on a hot summers morning. The crackling and roaring was always amazing.

For sheer body shaking noise, it was standing at the boundary fence on the end of the Heathrow runway in the 1970's and having a Concorde take off right over your head. I assume the roads & boundaries have been relocated since then.

I’m lucky enough through work to get on base at Edinburgh for 30-40 times a year and it’s always a thrill when the Hornets come to town. The place swarms like an ants nests when they are arriving or departing and everyone comes out for a gander. Lucky enough to have a nice spot where I can sit and have lunch only metres away from the tarmac and it still sends shivers up my spine with the heat, noise and vibration through the ground.
I’m not sure when the F35A is set to come but hopefully I get a chance to see them up close. I had become a bit accustomed to the Orion’s noise over the years and still find them as a majestic aircraft but I must the say the new Poseidon’s are a damn decent replacement.

To continue with the subject line....spotted this 787 simulator going in at the QF Jetbase Sydney this week.

How many million is that?
