Got $29. Deathstar airfares to Avalon ...

Picking up a rental car to get two of us to Point Cook, then returning to Tullamarine ( for QANTAS Club ) to head back to Sydney on Sat. 1st. March.

If any one ( or 2 or 3 ) others want to share a ride from Avalon to Point Cook, and get dropped off either back to Avalon or Tullamarine at the end of the day ... let me know. ( maybe throw a few dollars in for petrol ? )

I already have flights on the 1st heading North to MKY, but might be tempted to come to this on the 2nd, not having done an airshow before.

A couple of details for those thinking of going.

The event highlights the significant advances in military aircraft during the past 100 years. On display for the first time at Centenary of Military Aviation Air Show 2014 will be a newly built replica of a Bristol BoxKite aeroplane. The Bristol BoxKite was the first military aircraft flown in Australia at RAAF Point Cook, on 1 March 1914. No original Bristol BoxKite aircraft survive today. Three reproductions were built for the making of the film ‘Those magnificent men in their flying machines’. One is on display at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, another is on display at the Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire (where it is still flown during flying displays), and the third one is on display at the Museum of Australian Army Flying in Queensland.

The bulk of the information is on the web site but just in case people missed it.

  1. The Saturday and Sunday flying displays are planned to be identical.
  2. Tickets must be pre booked. i.e. no just rolling up at the gate.
  3. Air show tickets include free train and bus travel! On the day of the event, your airshow ticket will be valid for Metro Zone 1 & 2 trains and bus travel from Williams Landing station to Pt Cook and return.
  4. If driving parking tickets need to be purchased and can be done at the same time as your own tickets.,
  5. There will also be electronic signage around the Point Cook/Werribee areas guiding those people driving to the event, and people should follow that signage (rather than their GPS) to make their trip to the Airshow as smooth as possible.

Got ripped off with the $10. parking fee ( online ).

There are NO staff checking parking tickets / permits.

The promo states, you MUST pre-pay parking - yet nobody is checking. There were simply far too many vehicles, and only a hand full of contract security ( who when I asked about the 'closer' pre-paid parking area, gave the ummm, 'typical' look. There was no answer )

Good aerial displays though ...

Good luck to Skates flying the Boxkite. He is far gamer than i am!! Looks like a death trap...

The Boxkite flew the same trip from the same point at exactly the same time as it did 100 years ago. It is planned to do the same flight again tomorrow morning.

Rick93,

You know you did the right thing though.

For anyone planning on travelling to Pt Cook tomorrow the public transport option worked perfectly. Train to Williams Landing (39 mintrip and a train every 20 min from Southern Cross) then a fleet of buses so no waiting. Coming back was the same with the fleet of buses waiting and a train every 10 minutes. The best public transport setup I have ever seen at an event.

Fantastic flying display on Sunday. Perfect weather. Bristol Boxkite flew further than I expected.
Well done, impressive flying lineup.
