ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Cruiser, one thing I have come to learn in my time here is that you are anything but simple. Cheap maybe...but anyone who can score saver suites and F redemptions like cheap confetti as you do is not simple. ;)

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

You pay it.

So for a $1000 bill you would see two transactions for your Visa/Mastercard, $1000 and $4.20.

You might be able to claim the $4.20 as a tax deduction - see link in post #1 of this thread.

To the best of my knowledge none of the SROs take Amex. So, if you don't have another Visa / Master option, your only choice is the Visa/Master that came with your Altitude Black Amex.

I think it is 0.33% fee.

One cent definitely the line in the sand for me involving non personal spend. Probably would set the bar higher if accumulating and not redeeming was the problem.
NSW payroll tax works fine earning 1.33 VA/SQ points / $ for a 0.4% Visa outlay.

Land taxes can all go on Visa or MasterCard.....but don't try Citi without a tester as they may pay about zero points per dollar.

Hi guys, I'm new here and was hoping to get a bit of advice, I understand all the info I need would be in this thread, but there are 280 pages

Basically I have just started a business, I have a large gst bill to pay, as well as PAYG and also Company Tax. I don't travel much at all, but I thought I might as well get something if it's on offer, so I am looking at the Rewards Credit Cards, is there one that is known to be the best value? I also pay miscellaneous expenses via BPay, so one that earns points on BPay transactions would be preferable (if one exists)
Any help you could give me to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Jase

Which Visa card gives you 1.33 VA/SQ points per $ [for land tax, stamp duty] ?

Sounds like Citi Select to me, yes ?

Are you sure on this ?

Love to hear an answer.

Thanks

With Select have yet to miss out on the monthly payments. Do a test sample as Cove suggests and you should have a nice surprise with their terms and conditions seemingly aimed only at the ATO thus far. Likely had a huge impact on overall Citi card turnover given the Signature give away the past three months.
Bpay workers compensation and insurance renewals also likely to be lucky without any add-on charges usually required if made over the phone.

I had issue when Altitude refused to honour the points when I paid MH in KL for fees and taxes relating to an award booking. Because I paid in AUD (it was cheaper on the day) they maintained it was not an o/s transaction.

OT: Sorry for the late comment regarding this, but I just noticed on my statement tonight the following quote. Nothing to do with ATO but given prozac's comment I thought I would mention it anyway. I guess they don't like missing out on their share of forex transaction so they will charge you anyway.

"EFFECTIVE 20TH MARCH 2014, A WESTPAC FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEE WILL APPLY TO OVERSEASPURCHASE AND CASH ADVANCE/WITHDRAWAL TRANSACTIONS WHERE THE MERCHANT OR FINANCIALINSTITUTION CONVERTS THE TRANSACTION FROM A FOREIGN CURRENCY AMOUNT INTO AUSTRALIANDOLLARS AT THE TIME THE TRANSACTION TAKES PLACE. FOR TRANSACTIONS USING A MASTERCARDOR VISA CARD, THE FEE IS 3% OF THE AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR TRANSACTION AMOUNT. FOR AMERICANEXPRESS CARDS, THE FEE IS 3.5%. "

I am surprised that this is legal as in the instance quoted they are not effecting the forex transaction. Bankers...

That would be Gail Kelly working overtime at Westpac to get you those fresh new fees !

How else is she to make her bonus so that she can afford her weekender shack perched on the rocks at south end of Freshwater beach.
