First Class on SQ 77Ws SIN-MEL

Hi all,

Today's example of a first-world problem (well, possibly a zeroth-world problem) is that for the first time ever, I may have a chance to take a leg in First Class (yeah, I know, right?) on Singapore Airlines. Given it's a once-off (and possibly never again!), I'd like to have the most awesome experience possible. I have a choice of 2 different days to fly; one would be a 777-300ER and one's an A380.

So, the leg will be SIN-MEL, and I just wanted to check 2 things:

1) can anyone confirm if the 777-300ER planes which run this leg have the new upgraded SQ first class? The SQ website says "available on 777-300ER planes from August 2013", but doesn't make it clear if it's actually all the 77Ws as of that date, or if that's when it started rolling out.

2) the 'new' first class is 'better' than the (I'm sure already unbelievably good) first class on the A380, right? I mean, I've never flown on an A380 at all (somehow), so that'll be fun for me anyway, but if you had the choice: 'new' first on a 77W or 'old' A380 first? (outbound leg will be an A380 in business regardless, so at least I'll finally get to have flown one regardless of what I choose)

Thanks for any help with this terrible awful horrible dilemma I face.

A380 will be in a Suite.....rather than just First Class. so I would go for that.

1. The 777-300ER which runs MEL-SIN-MEL is not meant to be the NEW First product, however it did fly here about a week or so ago
2. The new First is better than the old First on the 777-300ER's but the A380 is a proper suite and is still far superior

The only other consideration is the timing of the flights, the A380 is overnight whilst the 77W (highly likely to NOT be the new 77W product) operates a day flight (in the SIN-MEL direction). It depends on whether you want to sleep or take full advantage of the service - although I guess the A380 gets a bit of both, a full meal service after take off and then a chance to sleep using the beds after the meal. So it is probably best in that regard too.

I had sampled both 'old' 777 F and A380 Suite.

Highly recommended the suite:

More privacy
Better seating
Straight bed
More space (it seems)

Waiting to sample the new F later this year

to me it makes little difference service or comfort wise whether it's the 777 or A380. But if you are tall (like me) the 777 seat is a little short - and requires sleeping on the diagonal. I haven't been on the new First yet so dunno if they have fixed that issue.

So, it turns out, this is me being a bit of an idiot, and your point is an excellent one. I got confused and in my planning notes muddled up SQ227 (which usually has the A380) and SQ207 (an A330, in this case), noting down 207 as the overnight and 227 as the early-morning flight. Turns out realistically my choice is 207 or 217, so 77W First it is. I can't really hang around until 9PM to take SQ227, as I'd miss Easter morning with the kids (and can't get in from Amsterdam early enough to take the previous night's 227).

Damn, no A380 suite for me. If anyone needs me I'll be crying in my trailer.

Wow are they not totally flat lie downs? I've used the Cathay Business product a few times (on an A330-300 and 777-300), totally lie flat with about half a meter extra room at the end of the seat, no need for the fetal position.

no no! they are full flat, just like the business class product they can be a bit short if you are tall - and you need to sleep at a diagonal to fit within the space.

Exactly! I found the Etihad J beds too short for me and I'm 'only' 186cm.
