There's probably a thread already answering this. I'm heading to NZ next week does anyone have any experience of Velocity Platinum flyers get any additional benefits with Air NZ such as row 3 seating or am I better flying with VA. Flying from PER and Air NZ are the only direct flight but if I'm going to be stuck down the back I'll fly VA via Sydney and upgrade with miles..

I booked via VA on an ANZ B777 (VA8034) MEL-AKL and all 4 of us were upgraded to PE which is quite nice on that a/c.

Assuming you mean the non-stop on the 772, you should have access to the "frequent flyer" seats near the front of Y. Unfortunately they do sell PE on the route so no free access to those seats.

NZ don't sell Premium on their 777; I fly them quite often and get the premium seats each time. The only issue is they are terrible (still 3-3-3).

OP is asking about the PER flight, which is sold as PE. I agree that the east coast 777 flights all have PE available for selection by NZ, VA and *A elites.

That being said, while the 772 PE is 3-3-3 it has a 41in seat pitch, so better than being down the back. Also have you tried the spaceseat on the 77W?

I should read before I post ;)

The pitch is excellent yes, but if you have a slightly larger than regular backside, it's not a nice seat to be in. I prefer a movable arm-rest to the fixed seat style in NZ's 772's.

Haven't tried the space seat, but a friend has. Apparently it's great for 4 hours or so, and after that it starts to become uncomfortable. Would be perfect for PER-AKL really.

Yeah, 9 abreast isn't exactly "premium". I've got a AKL-MEL spaceseat flight coming up in a few months so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

So they call 9 abreast on a 777 "premium". :( How many seats across would non-premium be, I wonder.

I love the space seat.

Best sleep I have *ever* had on a plane. This includes QF J and NZ J (all long haul).

Maybe our upgrade was to J then as we certainly were in a 2 2 2 config.

J is in a 1-2-1 config.

The 772 has PE in a coughpy 3-3-3 config. Same as Y but more leg room.
The 773 has the fabulous space seats in the 2-2-2 config.

You may have been in Business on a 767 they are 2x2x2.

If not then maybe the space seat - differently 'big' white seats in a 2x2x2 configuration.

And that's it for 2x2x2 on NZ.
