Baggage Connecting / Interlining Qantas to Qatar at DXB

Hi all,

I think I know the answer to this already, but I just wanted to check. I’m headed to Europe in July and am booked (or going to be booked) on the following flights:

16-July QF1 MEL-DXB 1550-0035
17-July QR1019 DXB-DOH 2230-2230
18-July QR-14 DOH-CDG 0125-0725

The Qantas flight is booked on one PNR and the Qatar flights on a separate PNR. I’m planning to grab some rest in DXB at the airport hotel (airside) between the flights – think I’ll need it!

The question is will Qantas tag the bags all the way through to CDG from Melbourne?

Edit: Is there a good OW lounge to use at DXB prior the DOH flight? Or can I use the EK lounge?

Qantas should tag the bags all the way through, even on separate tickets as per policy (with QR being a oneworld member airline).

As for DXB lounge you need one of a oneworld carrier. Check here: Lounge access - oneworld

If you are on a seperate PNR QF may not tag you the whole way through. They didnt for me when I transferred to AY. I think this will be a case of YMMV.

AY is a oneworld airline and your bags should have been tagged though as per Qantas documented policy:

Not disagreeing with you, I think they should have through checked, however, they did not. The fact that AY, through their non AY agent, managed to though check on the return reinforced this.

When pushed, I've had QF bag check with AY when on unique PNRs. But I have had to insist it was possible and I've had it done before. Only then the check-in agent makes a few calls on how to do it.

Will QF be able to check our bags through on the following flights:
16-July QF1 MEL-DXB 1550-0035
18-July BA0106 DXB-LHR 0155-0620
18-July BA0304 LHR-CDG 0725-0940


Note that there is now technically a layover of more than 24hrs in DXB. Does anyone know if that will be a problem?

Might as well collect bags and go to a hotel with a layover that long.

Yeah, I was suggesting the OP wouldn't qualify anyway as he is QF to DXB and then BA onwards... plus on separate tickets.
