With news out yesterday that the schedule will change for QF flights to London (no change on return) do you think Qantas are using it to test the waters for a more permanent change?

QF1 flight departs 90 minutes later than its usual schedule during the repair period and the Melbourne to London, via Dubai, QF9 flight will depart four hours later on most dates.

Does that mean essentially QF1 arrives a bit later in the morning, and QF9 much later in the morning (viz. mid-morning)?

Just wondering how they managed to negotiate with Heathrow to get a change in the times of their slots. I thought that might have been the significant hurdle in attempting to change the times of either of those flights.

Synchronising both flights with EK connections to Europe would have also been a small challenge.

Those were my first thoughts too - it would be a shame if EK ended up getting the early morning slots (which appear to be held by the top tier carriers). The proposed QF1 timetable gels with the old BKK-LHR slot but the 0930 arrival of QF9 doesn't seem to line up with any of QFs slots.

Interestingly, the article suggests QF9 will operate to a mixed schedule, suggesting (IMO) that the change is driven by bona fide slot constraints.

I hope this is a permanent change, in my opinion it makes sense from a customer and from the airline's point of view.

Does this mean that the two QF flights won't meet in DXB?

The later arrival is great for tourists who can't check into hotels until 2pm, not so good for people heading straight into morning meetings...

Not sure if it is relevant but after discussions with the CSM on this afternoons flight to London it appears there is going to be a major announcement on Friday from Qantas. They are unsure but speculation is rife that it will revolve around Major Flight Changes. Frankfurt/Berlin?Singapore?

It could be any, all or none of the above. Just thought it was interesting given the thread title. :D

Will be very interested to hear what this is about. I really, really hope it's a new route/s and not more cuts!!

This must be a massive head-ache for QF.

Passenger bookings will need to be revised for:

Mixed QF9/QF1 to LHR
Mixed QF9/EK codeshares to LHR
QF9 to EK destinations other than LHR
QF9 to non-EK destinations (eg code shares on BA) via LHR

QF are currently pushing a sale ex-LHR. All those looking to fly back on QF9 and then switch at DXB, will book ... and then be re-booked.

To a lesser extent, passengers arriving into DXB to transfer on to QF9 (are there any??) will have a greater layover, just bad luck, I guess.

From a positive perspective, this means less time on the ground for the aircraft at LHR.

It will be interesting to see whether anything comes of Ansett's observations. Whilst the work is being undertaken in DXB, I can't see anything happening to expand (using QF) into Germany - and I'd be surprised (though nothing QF does really surprises me lately!!) if QF went against the wishes of their EK masters and operated anything into Germany via SIN or another Asia port.

Regards,

BD

The current winter (Oz) timing for QF9 is for a 3:25pm departure and a 5:30am arrival.

I am wondering if they'll delay ex MEL to after 7pm - currently the Flounge closes at 5pm after QF155 departs.

Doesn't worry me. For Int. flights out of PER, I've switched to going via SIN or HKG with BA or CX. All QF can get is the PER-SIN sector.

Still, I guess that's what they wanted all along.

The first thing I thought about when a delayed departure was mentioned was longer F lounge opening hours

The results are in - to depart 7:15pm from May 1 until July 20.

Arrive DXB 3:25am

Dep DXB 5:25am, arrive LHR 9:55am.

If your body clock is still trapped on MEL/EST, then after dinner & movie have a good night sleep before arrival in DXB. Brekkie in lounge, If possible have a light snooze on the way to LHR.

I had no idea this was happening and I'm supposed to be flying to Ireland at 930 and I've booked that flight. What's the likelihood of qf letting me change my flight to the day before for free?

Yesterday I received notification of flight changes for our upcoming flight on QF9. Our flight departs in April so only small change to 3.15pm departure and arrival in LHR only 10mins later than original arrival.
Phew because last week I had booked a flight straight up to Glasgow and any bigger change I would have missed the connection.

Return flight to Sydney in May has also been changed slightly as well. Says it now arrive at 5.10am, earlier?
