From the "Qantas Domestic Business Class meals" thread:
qj-j-lunch-dec_zps4bbcedb1.jpg

Lunch - 1.5hr scheduled service.
I had similar this week 1pm SYD-MEL flight.

It was not not referred to as "lunch", it was the [desultory] "Chicken Salad" one of the three options for the new ' "All Day" Snack Menu'.
The other choices were "<something>" Soup or "Gourmet" Cheese.

I hope this is just a "Christmas/New Year" thing and is not ongoing.

Virgin Australia does better in business for lunch on such flights!

I noticed in Dec that the 3 options I was offered for lunch were the same as I had been offered for afternoon tea 2 days earlier.

Here's my salad:
Interesting. As you say is this a Christmas-New Year thingy or a change of service? We had the same menu on a 11.00am Mel-Syd this past Monday. However, the chicken salad was much more substantial, varied and attractive. It could have easily done on a lunch flight. OH had the soup and said that was good.

Having been offered two chicken salad plates on flights yesterday (only one of which I took up, but I saw said dishes on both flights as the person in the seat next to me took the chicken salad when I had the "cheese box" instead) I can say the quality of the chicken salads tend to vary.

Both had just two-three small slices of chicken (not enough to say, make a normal sandwich filling portion) but I got the more classier chicken salad earlier that day - which at least had a nice creamy dressing and some asparagus tips to give it a bit of life. The version I saw later that day was much like serfty's photo and was fairly povo looking lol.

The only really sad meal service was the one where the sole hot dish was a soup. Soup doesn't really count in my book, hence why I opted for cheese and crackers. Need more recent Qantas flights to properly call it, but I'm leaning toward calling VA's Domestic J catering the better of the two (especially the lovely full-size Duck Pie I get occasionally on Eastern triangle flights - it was larger than the fish pie I saw yesterday).

Mind you, a choice of something is better than nothing at all (and on my last flight of the day I also was given a packet of those soy crackers from a very nice FA).

Oh god. Ill be saying something if that is placed in front of me on a lunch flight

Unless it's "Is there a McDonalds in the arrival terminal?" (Lol) I wouldn't grief the poor FAs. They have to serve it, but didn't have any say in catering (read cost-counting) *enhancements*. A nice meal on short-haul is always a + but I'm aware that I can always get something elsewhere shortly if I'm hungry (now, with regards to International catering, alternatives are a little hard when 7+ hours locked on a/c).

Intend to stop by Cafe Vue (for meal box) before long-haul check-in, just to cover bases.

Well I'm sorry but in business class you are expecting something a bit more substantial at a MEAL time when the flight is scheduled LUNCH. And yes I will be passing on the feedback DIRECTLY to the crew on board who can then pass it on to their superiors. Are you saying just shutup and go to Mcdonalds for lunch when I arrive?? that's absurd

If flying long haul business class I better not need to stop at cafe vue for a takeaway box either....

No, I'm suggesting that serving an FA a mouthful of abuse will not change one damn thing, other than making someone else miserable. No need to shout either mate, I might be slightly deaf but my eyeballs read just fine.

Just an idea sunshine, but if you prefer to be an a*hole to cabin crew, far be it for me to stop you.

What the heck?

where on earth did I say I would start abusing cabin crew? Far out, I said I will say something. Giving feedback to the crew that I am unhappy with the meal options on board is hardly being an a*s hole or being abusive. I'm not shouting either just highlighting some points which it seems you didn't get. Never in my life have I ever abused a flight attendant and I never will.

I hardly read that post as offering 'a mouthful of abuse'. If that was my LUNCH (capitals for emphasis) I would be saying something to the FAs too. In fact I have more than once in the past.

I am not sure about any shouting either. I suggest a couple of chill pills are in order.

Sounded pretty DYKWIA to me Aussie_flyer and what/why do you think telling off an FA for not meeting your meal expectations achieves. Surely logic suggests it's more efficient if nothing else to direct complaints about catering to those who actually make catering decisions. You could even full-caps your indignation to [email protected] and expect more to be achieved than hassling the FA onboard. It's not like they can make you an alternative meal to your liking onboard now, can they. Suffice to say, your approach makes me sad and I'm sorry that you think that's a appropriate way to deal with it. Still, your life, your choices - DYKWIA to your hearts content (I just hope I never end up sitting next to you!)

I note you didn't argue you weren't intending to grief the FA either in your #11 post - abuse isn't just limited to language that will get you restrained by an Air Marshall

Its a well understood custom of written communication, particularly on the internet, that over-use of all caps is not considered polite form. But if you like frequent outrage, then I guess all caps overuse is par for the course ;)

Oh for gods sake.... so when you are unhappy with a service provided to you , you never tell the person providing you the service? You sit on it and go home and write an email about it do you?

I wasn't going to 'tell off' an FA either, simply mention to them that the meal is inadequate and disappointing. I do not see how that is inappropriate at all. The staff can pass feedback on. Most Qantas cabin crew I come across are quite happy to take feedback both good and bad. If a flight attendant asks you how was your meal, should I always just say yes and never utter a negative word to them even if it was rubbish?

I find your posts out of order, I am a very pleasant person to sit next to but if I find a meal inadequate I'll mention it to the flight attendant. Simple as that.

Wow - over sensitive much? I think I had two words in upper case. that was it. I find it incredible that you would react like this to me simply saying that I would give feedback on a meal to a flight attendant!

edit: sorry it was 3 words

Telling me what to think about you to boot - No, I definitely wouldn't enjoy being stuck next to you and if you get this worked up about a short-haul meal, methinks the only raw nerve here is you lol

And giving *ahem* feedback (you call it?) in customer service is pretty pointless when the grief/feedback doesn't relate to the person involved. If you were talking about who the FA served you "LUNCH" lol you might have a point, but Qantas Catering decided the meal and provided the meal - the FA just hands it too you (as I'm sure you are aware).

As this thread is about meals served, rather than about the way you raise your "feedback", I think you've gone way off-topic so I'll leave you to your choices in life with the hope you'll reflect one day on them.

If it's any salve to you, I reflected on your original post in consideration of the often hard and sometimes thankless job FAs have, rather than to your attitude. FAs are human beings too, and it doesn't hurt to treat them with fairness and kindness. If you missed that in the original post, it was my key message.

Did you read my first post in this thread? I simply said I would be saying something if a meal like that pictured by Serfty was produced to me as lunch. Whilst I find that meal inadequate I am only getting worked up at your reply to me. I find your attitude utterly bizarre. So according to you when the customer service manager comes by and asks how everything is and if they can do anything for me, I should simply keep my mouth shut even if I have been somewhat unhappy with some part of the product they represent? They are the front line customer service people and I will provide feedback as I see fit.

By the way which other flight attendant do you think I might be mentioning it to other than the one serving the lunch?

Anyway thanks for the banter it's been... interesting.

i do apologise if my use of caps in the one word of my last post offended you. i would hate to be considered a dykwia, particularly where qf fas in j are concerned. please let me know if punctuation is a problem, too.
