Planning MEL-LHR and back with QF next September/October (out Sept 8 back Oct 6, but flexible). When I search for J classic awards seats the QF search engine tells me there are no such seats available for the return trip. Can this be right so far ahead? (They do have JASA, but I don't have a million points to burn.)

Any ideas?

That probably means there aren't any Qantas or Emirates seats available.

However Malaysian doesn't show up online - you need to use another site like British Airways | Book Worldwide Flights & Holidays (you have to join their exec club) to search, or www.awardnexus.com , the KVS tool etc to search for other airlines.

Also try forcing it to check other routes through a multi city search - eg mel-HKG-LHR or MEL-Sin-LHR or Syd-SIN-LHR will force it to check the BA availability.

If you aren't a BA exec club member then you have to just pretend you have a UK address to join up for free.

Do you have 280K points available for each person? If so that will open up many more route options. If so let us know and I'll explain further.

Dale.

Thanks Dale. I had not yet started exploring options (other airlines, other routes), but will do so. I was simply amazed that nine months out there were no classic awards seats available for LHR-MEL. I thought it might be Australians returning home from the Commonwealth Games, but they finish in August, two months earlier.

Hi again,

Just did some searching on BA and there are flights available on 5 and 7 October from LHR to CDG (Paris) and then back to Melbourne with Malaysian - first leg BA of course.

You have to ring to book Malaysian flights through Qantas.

You might want to book these flights and then change to CX or Qantas if something becomes available closer to the time.

I also only let the BA engine find the routings - sometimes if you force it through HKG you might find CX options.

Hope that helps,

Dale.
