Qantas Christmas Gift Voucher Promotion

Hi All,

I see that Qantas is again offering the Gift Voucher promotion (10 points per $1 spent). I also have a Qantas AMEX card which gives me 2 points per dollar spend on Qantas products and services. If I bought a $500 gift voucher on AMEX would this effectively give me 6000 points (5000 + 2 x $500)? Since I am going to be doing some travel next year this could be a worthwhile investment.

Can the vouchers be used for any Qantas spend (e.g. the cash portion of a JASA)?

Yes I did exactly that, except my Bank AMEX is 1.5 point to each $1 spent.

Can't be used on a JASA.

This surprises me a bit, since how's a gift voucher different from paying cash for the cash portion of an xASA?

The gift voucher is effectively a booking of the voucher value, with no flights attached. As such it is predetermined to be a cash booking and there is probably no way to turn that into a points based booking.
