I had believed that lounge access is allowed on arrival but apparently that's not so. Arrived in CNS from SYD and I was told I could only visit club if I had onward journey. Is this so? Is it same for VA?

A VA Gold has arrivals lounge access. A Qantas Gold does not.

Yes, unless you're a WP/WP1/CL.

One of the main reasons I decided to go for WP with help of current DSC. Not everytime, but for some arrivals it would be very handy to have Lounge access IMO.

Well, well, I never knew a WP could gain lounge access with an onward QF flight, is that really correct?.

Do you mean without an onward flight? Or have I missed something?

I often use arrivals access as to many posters here.

Its listed clearly under the Platinum benefits:

Domestic Lounge access on arrival
As a Platinum Frequent Flyer you can access Domestic Business Lounges or The Qantas Club upon arrival if you have travelled that day on any flight that shows a Qantas, a Jetstar Airline or a oneworld® flight number on your ticket.^ You may also bring two guests, who do not need to be travelling.

Well, stuff me. Never picked up on that one. Can't imagine needing to use it on domestic flights, but it seems like if you have flown in on an eligible international flight (therefore 'travelled that day'), then if I had a VA onward flight, I could then sit myself in the QF lounge waiting for my VA flight (as I've recently dropped to VA silver, thus lost lounge access).

It was a compromise prompted in large by the stink raised on here when they withdrew anytime access.

It depends on your attitude, I'm only a QP, and yet have been able to access the QP on arrival without onward flights several times. Several times on arrival into PER I've asked the lounge angel (dragon not appropriate in this instance) if I may go in to use the showers and I've been welcomed right in. I've found as long as you ask nicely, don't act as if you're entitled to it, they can be very accommodating.

I use it mostly if meeting other interstate colleagues at the airport prior to going into the City for a Meeting and have arrived before them.

Can continue working in a professional and generally quiet (at that time of day) atmosphere.

BD

I don't believe the benefit applies to international lounges, hence the heading "Domestic Lounge access on arrival". So, for example, you can't fly BNE-SIN on QF and then access the lounge. However, the wording of the benefit suggests that if you flew SIN-BNE you could use the domestic lounge on arrival.

Which is just what I meant. :)

There probably wouldn't be an onward VA flight in SIN.

Never gave it a thought until now, should have some fun with this.

It's useful in a lot of ways. Arrivals access with no further flights, arrivals access with further flights on non-oneworld carriers, early access when you arrive early but have to wait hours for JQ check-in, etc. I have used it for all of those in the last 24 hours.

And the idea that anytime access has been removed is in writing only, not practice. So my 20 odd VA/Rex/Tiger flights this year have gained me access too!

Alongside first lounges on economy flights, I'd say it is the biggest perk lost when dropping back to Gold.
