What would be your "ideal" voucher value to give you the max flexibility / point yield ? Or is that a "how long is the piece of string" question ?

? $200

? $500

Given that we cannot combine vouchers, cannot use vouchers for MASA and that nobody wants to leave a $10-20 voucher (or two) behind.

I find a $500 voucher ideal. I will more than likely purchase $5,000 again.

I will try to maximise each one but I dont care if I have to use a credit card for up to $50 extra on each voucher. I think this year I spent ~$200-$300 extra to finish off the $5,000 in vouchers.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I bought 2 x $500 and 1 x $250 - was perfect for 2 x PER and 1 x ADL with no change (little to pay each booking). They were all Flexi fares, which also allowed cheaper upgrades. I'll be in for the same this year

Last year, what sort of 'bonus points' and 'new and improved for xmas', was offered?

Thanks, it was too obvious that it would be in post 1 - 10 bonus points per dollar - that's terrific. Hope they do it again.

Red Roo is browsing this thread.

Hopefully, RR will recommend to the boss:

1) The 10:1 deal would be the same or (I don't object) better

2) Vouchers can be combined to get more $$ for the trips (both single and dual-name vouchers).

Over to you guys now

Here's my 770¢!

Yesterday I saw a sale for BNE/MEL flight on QF with availability for flights I wanted next year. The sale $119 each way fares were $60 cheaper than current 'normal' rate of $179.

First thing I did was purchase a $50 gift voucher, earning 125 QFF points (Earth).

I then went and had a cup of coffee.

By the time I returned I had received the confirmation email and I was able to apply the voucher to the $238 return fare, spending another $188 and earning another 470 QFF points.

All done in 20 minutes with seating selected.

So I spent $238 and earned 595 QFF points. Now I could have spent $245.70 ($238 + $7.70) and earned 614¼ QFF points but I am happy with the outcome. :D

Am I right in saying that in your case buying a $50/$100/$200 voucher would have resulted in exactly the same spend/points yield?

Has anyone had an experience when booking international flights for children/infants or can point me to a relevant post?

If the promo comes around again I'm thinking to get a single voucher with 4 names (2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant) and put it towards an international flight for 4.

Because child fare is 75% and infant 10%, depending on the cost of the flight they may not use their whole entitlement of their voucher. Does their unused portion help cover the shortfall for the other tickets?

ie - hypothetical ticket cost is 2x$750(a)/$562.5(c)/$75(i) for a grand total of $2137.5 will QANTAS deduct $2000 (4x$500) from this?

That strategy is fine if you are purchasing vouchers outside the promotion period to avoid the $7.70 credit card surcharge.

Have a tax refund sitting in the bank waiting for this years promotion to start....hint hint Red Roo, how about a pre-release Voucher & bonus sale for AFF members, I'm pretty sure many of us here will happily support the cause ;)

I dont think too many people would be trying what you are attempting so you would be the guinea pig so to speak.

If I had to guess I would say since there are 4 people in the booking it will deduct the total voucher value from the total ticket value and you will be asked to pay for any shortfall.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but how exactly do you use these gift vouchers to pay for a fare on line?. When you make a booking, I can't see anywhere on the payment page to use the voucher. The options only appear to be c/c or bpay.

When you receive the voucher there is a link on it to book with the voucher. It's also on the Qantas page.

You enter the voucher number which then becomes the PNR for that journey.

on the right hand side of the qantas home page is says manage booking. you enter the voucher number in and last name and then you can search for flights and it will automatically apply the credit.
might seem backwards but I believe thats the way to do it
