I haven't seen a case yet where points were re-instated unless there was missing activity...

Sad to hear that your daughter has lost her QFF points. It would appear this is happening quite a lot recently. It cannot hurt to send an email to Qantas customer care explaining the situation. You have nothing to lose.

The points were held by my 16 year old daughter who has flown a number of times in the past 18 months on family points not on her own.To counter your other argument I am not in favour of a 16 year old having a credit card and as parents we buy the food for our child and so there is not a need for her to go down to Woolworths to buy food.
If you want to make snide remarks I would suggest you obtain the facts before you pontifcate

Well that's just plain silly.
Weather or not you favour a 16 YO having a CC or not is immaterial.
Fact: Free QFF membership is available via the woolworth everyday rewards card.
Fact: As has already been mentioned a single transaction of at least $31.00 on said card in 12 months would have avoided your situation
Fact: Your failure to familiarise yourself with the rules is not the fault of this forum nor it's members.

If you don't want to hear the answers. Don't ask the questions.
I suspect your daughter would be best served in getting advice elsewhere.
You appear to be too conceited to come down from the comfort of your cross and fess up to the fact you don't read anything properly.
Like many others on this site, I have a (EDR) card for each of my grandchildren who 10 years junior to your daughter in age.
I don't put much on them, but enough to tick the account over.

Gift Cards are so popular with retailers today because they expire. Unused expired cards (partly or fully) are a great earner for them.

Frequent Flyer Programs were once loyalty programs. Now they make buckets of money, and so it is all about making more money.

That is why QFF changed the expiry down from 3 years to 18 months....to ensure that your either earn more points with them gaining their cut on each, or that you lose them.

I can sympathise with the OP's points loss (for a few seconds) but that's about it.

He apparently did not know that:

1) QFF points do expire

2) There are many ways he, not his daughter, could have done to keep the points alive

3) People on this forum is very keen and capable of sharing fruitful information .... to those who could simply ask

4) Like many other adverse events in life, it's better (and more gracious too) to admit to mistakes and turn it into wisdom

If the OP stays and have >100 posts, then your mistake would in fact be your savior as you will have learned another 1,000s tips from all of us.

But one thing confuses me ...... you said your daughter flew on award tickets from someone else's points (yours presumably). I'm almost sure that when I did a similar thing with my kids the flight counted as activity and reset the clock. Almost sure.

I'm not sure - unless it is an ASA, award seats don't give you a ~ for status purposes, so not sure.

I wonder what Qantas' emails say as you approach that 18 month expiry period?? If they made it quite clear a couple of times that it was approaching and you should take action, then all the customer's fault, if they say nothing then unhelpful, self serving and Qantas could do a lot better...

We all know that everything these days has a set of T&Cs as long as your arm, its like every food product has a warning about having nuts in it, when its everywhere people begin to ignore them and they verge on being counter productive...

We recently lost 106730 frequent points .The lack of customer care from Qantas was amazing.I would like to hear from anyone else who has lost points and there experience with Qantas.I suspect there are 100's maybe 1000's like us out there .I would like to take the lack of customer loyalty by Qantas furthur

You don't say in your last line what you want to do to take it further.
But, being pragmatic for 100K points I think it would be way to much grief.

100K points will get you Y SYD to LAX, at the moment I can see QF fares for that at $1450. How much are you prepared to spend to recover $1450.

The flight doesn't (may not) count as activity. But redeeming for an award does count.

I'm not sure - unless it is an ASA, award seats don't give you a ~ for status purposes, so not sure.

It has been posted elsewhere and was first seen on FT but worth repeating here for new members.

Order a new Frequent Flyer card from Qantas, cost is 1,000 points and it counts as activity meaning you have another 18 months before you need to have more activity.

I don't believe that people are saying that a Classic Award will earn any points. What they are saying is that to buy a Classic Award is a points transaction that will count as activity in the account. (i.e. points burnt)

If that in deed had happened then there would not be a problem.

Yes, but the OP stated that his daughter did fly Qantas ... but on family points.

He was under the impression that she was already "active" not realising that (i) family points booking is not considered her own "activity" and (ii) Classic Award flight on its own is also not an "activity"
