Hi all

I have a upcoming tirp to SG coming up where i fly up on QF and back on EK with flight number QF8404. it is a paid business class booking. Does anyone know if Emirates allow you to pay for upgrade at check in to First? Would love to try, or is this not what emirates do? If they did would affect my SC earning on QF?

Thanks

They may - I have come across reports of such being available sometimes from Economy to Business, but I am not so sure about Business to First.

Hi Ben174,

Not what EK do, you can only get an upgrade on EK in one of three situations:

1- Upgrade with miles, you can buy 1,000 skyward miles for $40 USD, max 25,000 miles in a 12 month period to top yourself up, but is the main way for an upgrade.
2- Operational upgrade. - at check in for operational reasons.
3- They do, and I assume is what Serfty is talking about, when a premium cabin is almost empty, email offers 4 days prior to Y pax giving the option to upgrade for $100-400 per PAX on the booking in question. These offers are specific to the PAX on the randomly selected booking and do not go as an offer to all PAX on the given flight. It is also not often, and I would get the offer about 1-5% of the time.

However as you point out, you are booked with QF, and not EK, so you may have options to do so as you are booked via QF.

But as your question was regarding being able to pay for an upgrade at check in with EK directly for what I assume is a reasonable/discount price - it is something they don't do. The only option given to you with EK close to this, is a change of booking, which is paying a change fee, plus the fare difference at today's prices.

I have also found with EK, they don't like to upgrade anyone to F, or even sit in F, if they don't already have a paid customer in F already. I think I have in all my history of flying EK 777's, only once seen someone in F - and when I had a faulty J seat, with the rest of J full, but F empty, they refused to let me move seat to F only because they didn't have anyone else in F on that given day.

The EK emailed offer is on a first come, first served basis.

I got it once (Y to J) with the email arriving at 2-3am (AEST).

By the time I got to it at 6-7am, there was no J seat left in that offer.

Unsure how many people got the upgrade offer and how many J seat(s) was released in the offer.

Had a chat on the Live chat service with EK. They said no cash upgrades or any kind are emailed out or available at check in when booked on a QF code share, its only applicable for Emirates Document holders and Skywards members, ah well, worth a shot!

My emailed offer was on a QF codeshare EK flight.

Policy may have changed since April.
