I am planning to fly BNE – CHC and the routing is via SYD.The booking is coming up as BNE-SYD on QF8 departing 0630 arriving 0810 then SYD-CHC on QF8766 departing 0915. (Travelling on QF flight numbers but EK metal.)

My question to the AFF experts is:

On checking in at BNE international (for a domestic leg), am I checked all the way through to CHC and do a transfer only at SYD or am I checked to SYD as a domestic and then need to clear immigration as a D pax andthen check-in again for the international sector. If it is the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] scenariothen the 1hr & 5mins would be enough time but if the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] scenario then there would not be time in my past experience with this flight. Also, where would checked luggage end up.

re: BNE-SYD-CHC check-in question [QF Int->QF Int, one ticket]

If this is all on the one ticket (PNR) you would be checked in all the way through to CHC. Technically BNE will become your port of exit, so you won't have the D sticker, and you'll only need to go through transit in SYD. Keep in mind that LAG rules will apply in SYD, so don't buy any DF in BNE...

Your bags should be checked all the way through to CHC.

Whether on same pnr or two separate ones, your luggage will be through checked to CHC & you should get both your QF & EK boarding passes. Customs clearance is done in BNE.

As others have said above no 'D' sticker required as you're not travelling domestically on an international flight (in isolation) but have an international connection to CHC.

As transit time is limited you probably won't have time to use the EK Lounge in SYD as I imagine you'd pretty much be headed from the QF8 arrival gate to the EK departure gate.

I would checkin early as the security screening point in BNE Intl is a complete rock show with generally only 2 lanes in operation so you need to allow for this. You'll probably be okay at that time however mid-morning can be chaos as there is no dedicated air crew lane so you can be standing there while crew after crew is ushered infront of pax.

Thanks beachbabe, pretty much as I thought. I use QF8 to SYD and also the EK to BNE (both early morning) quite regularar and know the customs/immigration/screening side show fairly well. At 5.30 - 6.00am for QF8 and about 6.30 for the EK its usually not too bad.

One extra question as you have bought it up, If time permits, and I do wish to use a lounge just to go to the loo etc, I will be flying J class on a QF flight number and QF ticketed but on EK metal. Which lounge can I go too or can you use either and which is closer to the EK departure gates

The EK lounge will be closer to the EK departure gates, yes I have many a time during tight connections gone to the lounges just to use the loo...

Make sure you check your phone incase it's QF(8)late........reading the SMS directing you to the DOM terminal can come in handy.

We're doing QF8 connecting to QF11 next week......apart from the early start - it's a good transit option.
