First they serve me a wine that isn't in the voluminous wine booklet on the LAX leg; then they have the temerity to offer me this in the lounge. Koonunga Hill was what I drank when I was a broke student.
Come on Qantas. Not good enough.

Sorry about sideways pic

In 1976 Koonunga Hill was about $2 a bottle (and 2 years earlier Penfolds Auldana was 49 cents) and it was a blend. Today Penfolds uses the name as a brand for different wine styles, some of which can be very good in a reasonable year. Of course the test is - would you pick it in a blind tasting as a good wine?
Cheers!

I agree, it's a label and a resonable quaffer, I quite enjoyed the $6.99 a bottle special from Dans earlier this year and thought its drinking like a $12-16 bottle. FWIW it looks like its rolled out to most international lounges, my only beef if the fact they use it for most of the choices, why not just a red and a white and have an alternate offering for those not a fan?

I noticed the preponderence of Penfolds at the SIN lounge.

Having it at LAX would suggest there has been some significant contractual relationship organised.
