Looks like the cyclone will be at its closest 3AM tomorrow morning, based on the predicted track, anyone heading up tonight or tomorrow should probably keep an eye on flight status.

While Friday night's EK fight flew over Adelaide and touched the bight, last nights qf6 went reasonably direct.

Bugger, I am booked to fly in tonight. At this stage, I'll keep my booking because the risk tomorrow is even higher. I be looking for a QP at Tindal!

That forecast looks ok. Just need to have 60 mins holding fuel.

I am flying up for work on Tuesday. I have never had my flight cancelled or delayed heading up unfortunately

Approaches in variable winds gusting to 45 kts would not be fun with a big tail surface area.

It's land-able if you must, depending on the wind direction, but I definitely wouldn't want to be there.

Not landable if its crosswind, most aircraft have a 30kt max.

You wouldn't be landing in the tempo period with 500m vis and the gusts. Easier to hold the 60 minutes of fuel. Runway 29 at Darwin has the ILS and favours the forecast wind, at least that is something.

Crosswind not a problem for what I fly in

Alternates will be the issue for the 738s and A320s, closest suitable being 140+ minutes away I suspect, throw in holding and inbound fuel and I dont think the PNR will exceed DRW + 60.

Surely those two types can do say SYD - DRW and hold 60 minutes. Otherwise they would not be departing whenever there was a TEMPO or there was no suitable alternate.

I believe forecast above only requires 60 minutes holding or an alternate as the weather outside the TEMPO periods is not below alternate requirements.

YPTN also has a TEMPO at the moment

At the moment it's Ok with Port Hedland pretty good, I suspect an update in a few hours will probably see things get worse, YBAS is also fine, fours hours up, 1 hour hold does cut it fine with those alternates.

If you don't hear from me within six hours, please send NPPPs to Tindal, Alice Springs and Port Hedland.

And just to be sure, Bali!

Boarding now... wish me luck!

Yes, Jaffas would be great thanks!

Sorry, I set my SARWATCH an hour early!

Smooth flight, landed with a gentle 10kt westerly. Please call off the NPPPs!
