Already? It wasn't too long ago that they created the old lounge!

Wonder if that means the F lounge will become a BA lounge

I was under the impression it was all becoming one space. Besides, it's the F lounge that's currently closed and being renovated, so perhaps something will be done with the J lounge, or it'll just join up.

I thought the 2 lounges are on different floors? Maybe they are able to somehow join them together?

The CGI photos show an upper level lounge with no roof...
hence appears the combined lounge will be where the old First lounge was.

Entry appears like the current F lounge - where you enter from near the "Welcome to" piece.

and the downstairs Business lounge will disappear.

The Wing has stairs connecting both levels. Is there demand for both floors, do they have enough flights?

If JQ starts operating would lounge access and space be a consideration.

Hmmm.

Not sure I agree with that decision especially if they get rid of the desktops from this lounge as well.

Question

How many flights per day does QF Have through Hong Kong. I understand it no more then 3 or 4 per day and I thought that they all left around the same time so why would QF revamp a lounge and spend money it doesnt have for a handful of flights per day when it could share a lounge with ohh lets see, CX?

Or have they pissed them off that much too?

I would also ask how many flights depart Hong Kong per day with QF Flight numbers to destinations other than Australia I do believe it is a BIG FAT ZERO

So this seems to be a huge waste of money specially given that they are looking to reduce costs by lowering standards ( Razors as an example) in its premier Sydney and Melbourne F Longes ???

A waste of money to me But hey it is only my opinion.

They used to be QF & BA lounges - I wonder if BA continues to send passengers to them though

good point - shows there is a future perhaps in HKG being more than just an outstation (here's hoping).

offering lounge access whilst travelling on JQ HK will be a good way to combat CX when they start getting predatory with their pricing (assuming they get AOC approved of course!). they may also be looking at connecting the AU flights into China to avoid giving revenue to CX and KA.

Maybe they will expand more flights in the future also they have recently started a new codeshare with jetairways to/from India from hkg with QF flight number and some MU flights with QF code to China .

If QF are selling F into HKG I would hope that a significant service differential is maintained in this lounge if they move to a joint lounge design. I'm aware this is what EK does but I don't particularly want to have to share a lounge with everyone from JQ Star Class up. It works with EK because they only have J,F,EK Gold and a much smaller number of Plats. Whereas, QF has a gaggle of eligible people all of whom will swap the lounge.

I'm not sure behaviour has anything to do with status. I'm a lowly silver (partner is WP) but I can assure you I was extremely demure and non demanding compared with some of the WP (yes, I know they were) travellers who let their kids behave abominably in the SQ club. So much do that I offered to take one of their girls to the Ladies (only father was present at the time) because she was wailing to go but dad kept telling her to wait. He said he was trying to teach her a lesson. Ok, do it at home and not in a crowded club.

On the HKG website it mentioned Delta and BA as using the QF lounge. Might not be accurate, but did have information about the closure and re-opening in 2014.

I think if JQ gets into HK then this lounge will all be a part of that, and perhaps more in the future if they really do re-focus on Asia.

As for flights a day, they recently dropped PER so it's probably BNE, SYD and MEL: 3.

I've seen Air France send passengers to the QF lounge too.

Qf has codeshares into PEK and CAN plus the 3K SIN flights (2-3 per day) in addition to the AU dailies

If JQ starts operating would lounge access and space be a consideration.

Unlike The Wing, QF's J section is a level below the concourse (similar to The Pier) while the F section is on the Mezzanine (much like The Wing F Section). IIRC, space on the concourse between the two is in use by some shops, so connecting the two is certain to not be a simple matter of putting in a flight or two of stairs.

Given the (low) number of flights, it is not at all surprising that QF is moving to a single lounge and I'd imagine the space presently occupied by the J lounge will be returned to HKIA

Well that removes that idea. One level lounge it is!

I hope they can perhaps somehow add in a new access to the gates. While you can see the pax lining up and boarding at gate 15 from the lounge, it's a pretty long walk to get there. And I don't know how they can actually make the space bigger that it currently is - unless they somehow expand level 7, and build it towards where the G16 lounge is? I guess it's still better than the J lounge, a level below the concourse. It's impossible to get natural light in, unless they open up to side where all the arrival pax from the area of gate 16 would go pass. Let's see how all that goes on my monthly visit next week.
