Its being operated by the second oldest plane in the QF fleet!

On Twitter QF has posted that QF7's aircraft was unserviceable. The sub (VH-OJC) is a non-ER aircraft and thus can't do DFW-BNE, as markis10 implies. Thus QF8 will operate DFW-AKL-BNE-SYD.

In this case would they offer some passengers or even accept a request for the option to transfer to QF50 or QF142 at Auckland to reduce the delay to people going to Sydney? Or would it be a refuel with no one getting off the plane in Auckland?

Its a top up stop, the 744 cannot do the flight without it compared to the normal ER that operates the route.

I realise it's a stop for fuel, but would they go into the terminal while they refuel and if so would they allow Sydney passengers a direct flight from Auckland?

Unlikely for both, just like diversions to BNE dont allow BNE passengers to leave unless they are HLO.

I knew somebody on this flight. The aircraft simply refueled and left AKL. No passengers were able to disembark (which would have been painful for those who were actually heading to AKL!)

How long does Refueling normally take? I'm guessing it wouldn't be as heavy a fuel load though if only having to cross the ditch.

During these refuelling stops when all pax cannot leave aircraft, can J go into full recline/lie flat? Arrival into AKL would have been before sunrise.

There is talk about gate to gate active IFE and lie flat J but apparently not approved yet?

i believe J pax can recline whatever they one, but seat belts must not be fastened when the aircraft is refueling. Likewise for W and Y pax. Other than that the normal procedure applies.

I was on QF47 a week and a bit ago, we tried twice to land at WLG then diverted to CHC for a fuel stop. Same situation nobody allowed off the plane.

They did have some ambulance guys come on at CHC for a lady that was sick up the back.

I've had some nasty turbulence before but jeez even this one was scary!

So on OP im guessing its a customs thing. Staying on board means no need for any clearance.

We copped a 2hr tech delay (some aircon / engine related issue) ex-MEL back when QF29 was a ~2230 departure. J pax were allowed to recline / sleep but had to be woken/raise for takeoff.

We copped a 45min delay (same trip) ex-LHR due to stormy weather and need to onload more fuel. Pax were ok to move about cabin "as if boarding" (seatbelt sign stayed on) until advised by CSM/pilots that doors were closing.

So for those like me who fly J/F very occasionally as a treat getting delayed while on board is a bonus. Especially on the basis of fare paid per time in full recline
