re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Phone booking fee, since the booking had to be made by the call centre they charge a $35 or 3500 point fee ...

Another Qantas CSR got it wrong, again.

There is no booking assistance fee as it cannot be booked on-line.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Refer them to "right on Q 7740" and/or hunt around AFF for references to the original email. Also hunt through RedRoo's posts. Lol there are plenty enough of them about this topic :)

Don't let them get away with it ;)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

A wise old Roo told me recently (this week) the following: -

The fee waiver information most definitely does appear in the internal cluecard, and offers the staff member a step by step guide of the necessary system entries required.

As my good friend Newk has already mentioned....Don't let them get away with it ;)

Thanks Guys, I'll get on the horn with them in the morning to get my money back! Thanks heaps!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I just booked Perth-Cairns JASA. The CSA knew about the process but had to check after I said that no booking fee was chargeable. All in all she was extremely helpful and was able to tell me which flights had sky beds.

I cant help but wonder though what this costs Qantas in terms of staff time as I was on the phone for 40 min. I would be much happier doing this on-line by myself.

Assuming the CSR is on at least ~$20 an hour, that 40min is at least ~$14 or maybe more for that time... #qantasfail

Reading this thread is making my head hurt and I hope QF come to their senses and return these types of bookings back to the online option.

Phone booking fee, since the booking had to be made by the call centre they charge a $35 or 3500 point fee for booking a Classic Award as a JASA, since you can't do this online anymore.

The phone assist fee was incorrectly charged, you should be able to get this refunded if you can be bothered calling back.

I was bothered to call back, got on the horn with them. As soon as I started saying this fee was charged incorrectly Qantas took the defensive and said no it wasn't. As soon as I mentioned "Right on Q 7740", there was a couple of moments silence, some furious typing and a refund was issues.

Goes to show you just have to know what to say! Thanks guys for all your help! Greatly appreciated!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I have booked 3 of these so far without a problem, last one was an hour ago. Had a nice conversation with the csm who said that the reason these were removed was because they were 'sabotaged' but did not go into details. Agree that is was so much easier to search online but as long as I can still book these I am happy.

Sabotaged? The plot thickens! I'd love to know why!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

So I have a MEL-xBNE-CNS-xSYD-MEL JASA booked and needed to change the MEL-BNE to be a few days earlier (making it a stop over).

First agent on the weekend wanted to charge me all sorts of fees, didn't seem to understand ASA so I just said I'd call back.

I called today and got someone a little better but the extra taxes amounted to $116 per person which I paid but thinking about it now it seems a little high?

If I check a QF Classic award multi leg MEL-BNE // BNE-CNS the Classic award taxes are only $88 PP total.

If I use Matrix to price up a paid J fare MEL-BNE // BNE-CNS the taxes/surcharges total $138.

Have I been overcharged? Any advice?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Culpable lurker here, not sure if this is the best thread to ask in, but I don't think it warrants a new thread.

Looking at booking a JASA at classic rates (U) MEL-LAX for next year - myself + wife + 5 month old baby on lap. Reading up on other older threads (standard classic booking) - the infant should be free (at least points-wise) but should not be added to the booking until born.

14.3.4 Infants under two years and not occupying a seat, travel without the need to redeem Points as long as the accompanying adult is travelling on a Classic Award. There is a limit of one infant per adult travelling on a Classic Award. Taxes, fees and carrier charges (including GST) may be payable in relation to infants as specified by Qantas at the time a Member books a Classic Award.

There is nothing mentioned about ASA for infants in the terms and conditions, so the all important question, as the underlying fare basis for the JASA would be classic award - what would be the associated cost for the infant on lap?

As always - thankful for the collective knowledge of AFF.

(As a side note, and wanting to use what I have picked up on AFF - I did see the thread on using cash to upgrade from JASA to FASA, and had considered doing so for this trip but the business seats being side by side seems to make them better for baby passing + not wanting to ignite the discussion of babies in First.. ouch).

Perhaps PM Red Roo...?

What fare bucket was it booked into...? If it was "U" then I would agree that the underlying fare basis would be a classic award...???

Verb
Expressing possibility.

So it's a possibility but not a certain... Clever wording once again by Q

It will be booked into U - not booked yet.

Good idea re asking Red Roo, will do and report back if no one is sure.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I have now wasted another 1/2 hour on the phone going around in circles. First of all being fobbed off and told they should be booked on-line. I politely stuck to my guns and then quoted Right on Q 7740. The lady I spoke to was quite sarcastic that someone had given me this Q Card Number. She told me 3 times that that card only refers to 'changing and ASA', not booking one. She kept telling me that it can be done on-line and the price for Points plus Pay is exactly the same price as JASA in U Bucket. Eventually we started to make some headway. She quoted 96,000 points with co-payment of $ 435.26. That seemed fair as Classic co-payment was $ 170. When I gave the go ahead she told me it wouldn't accept the 2 passenger names. She then put me on hold again to speak to a supervisor and it suddenly came up as a co-payment of $ 1,712.00 I can only guess that her trying to book these last 2 seats for me has taken them out of circulation. She did mention lots of IT problems. She also said 'enhanced too many times for my liking'

Similar thing happened to me on Sunday, first agent I tried to book the ASA with came up with crazy price, hung up and called back to speak to someone else who told me the "U" fare was no longer there. I suspected that it had not been released from my initial call to the first agent so I decided to "milk" some time by talking about where the agent was located, whats the weather like and how I used to be able to book these on line... The 1 min chit chat worked and the "u" fare reappeared...

So the advice is to wait a few minutes when hanging up and trying again, you need to leave enough time for the fare bucket to return to availability...

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Many posters report being told that JASA's can still be booked on-line.
When I rang recently to change a booking, I mentioned to the very helpful and friendly Karen what a shame it is that we now have to ring in order to book. Not so she said, you can still book on line. It's a quiet time at the call centre she continued, if you have time and log into your account I can guide you on how it is done. So I logged on and followed her prompts but I think she took me to the wrong place. She did assure me that points & SC would be earned if I followed her instructions. Not wanting to cause any upset, I thanked Karen for all her help, said goodbye and hung up. If nothing else it explains why Q staff are confused.
Now if somebody can tell me how to insert a print screen (s) into a post I would be more than happy to show you where I was led.

Print screen (Use the PRTSC Key) and paste (CTRL V) it into an imaging program... such as paint
