Was it a domestic business class booking?

If so, the fare rules have been the same for standard Domestic Business class.

Hopefully so but as has been pointed out before there are now no Fare Rules (for xASA's) in MMB since the great IT update.
QF and Red Roo know this from previous posts but so far nothing has been done to restore this to the booking system.

Ok tried again to book a JASA Mebourne to Auckland...located a classic award for the dates I wanted ( all QF flights) and called up...CSR told me it could not be done...I then explained that it could and used the script and she apologised and said there had been so many changes that it was hard to keep up, I identified the flights and numbers for her, she said she could only see Mel-Auckland direct and not the Mel - Bris - Auckland flight that I could see on my screen, explained that I wanted the later flight if possible, she said she would have to investigate and put me on hold and then after 10 minutes of holding I was cut off...don't think I am meant to go to NZ anytime soon. I will try again later when I am at home...so for the record I do not want to go direct ...should that be an issue ?


It seems to be harder/more expensive to book the hopping fares when there are direct alternatives....there is some discussion upthread about alleged changes to the rules for these, but maybe someone can shed more light on this

I booked MEL-BNE-CNS-SYD-MEL JASA on the phone last night, reasonably painless even though I don't think the rep had done any/many of these before but she seemed to get it all correct and pretty quick. I forgot to mention about the booking fee waiver but haven't been charged that yet...

Cost was 127,959pts all inclusive. Alternative was 72k + $532

Not sure I'm getting great value from the points but better to burn them...

I think it was more her supervisor that gave me a one time get out of jail free card, but it was clear; next time I would be charged. I was put on hold for 5+ minutes as she checked with her supervisor. I did quote precedent, but I couldn't point to any written information except the Right on Q staff cards... but it doesn't give Staff explicit guidance to waive the fees. Qantas should amend ROQ to say 'WAIVE CUSTOMER BOOKING FEE FOR MASA' in Red Bold '18' underlined font on top of the card.

Apart from that, really good customer service from Jodie, and it was good that she heard me out and didn't force the fee on me; not her fault for lack of employer guidance in the form of instruction cards and supervisors...

Why do you say that? The QFF will be around for a long time, its a viable business in its own right. There are many other options with points also, the shop and upgrades.

The longer I hold onto the points the more likely they will be worth less as QF devalues them with enhancements.

What does my head in is if I convert those 127k points to say Myer Vouchers(which I've never done and not planning to right now) it would be about $950 worth. So essentially I'm giving up $950 for a return business class flight MEL-CNS when I could buy the same thing for cash in Economy for $200-$250 (with another airline). I'm not convinced that spending an extra $700 is 'worth' doing it in Business for a relatively short flight. If it was Long Haul that's a different story...

And it looks as though a fee is applicable:
"For changes made over the phone, you must pay the service fee applicable as at the date of the change."

Post-June 26th domestic MASA cancellations: no fee whatsoever.

Full points and CC refunds

I'd assume the same should apply for a change instead of a cancellation.

I was placed on hold only once while CSR went seeking advice if fees were to be charged. Other times, straight up: no fee, Sir.

Regarding my INT MASA bookings, one CSR told me it would be fee-free change or cancellation (ex AUS). Time will tell there.

Like others, I am still waiting for Red Roo's follow up reply on the issue of the (post June 26th) missing Fare Rules on the MMB page.

Honestly, there is that much info there no wonder it gets confusing and/or hard to find.
I might even take my chances and just ring and ask for a refund of the service fee.

I logged into my QFF account and so far the 3,500 point change / service fee has not been charged. Maybe later?

Got on the phone with Qantas today and booked a JASA from SYD to MEL (Hoping the swans make the Grand Final, and if they don't well JASA's are fully refundable). 3 Adults for 96,000 points return (16,000 each, each way) and $215.94 each, plus the $35 booking fee. They seem to be keeping these "marginal" benefits going for a while after the "enhancements". But I'm happy if they keep it this way!

Phone booking fee, since the booking had to be made by the call centre they charge a $35 or 3500 point fee for booking a Classic Award as a JASA, since you can't do this online anymore.

40 min on the phone, two CSA's... First CSA ... No idea honestly :shock:. Hang up and called again and wonderful Elizabeth knew what to do...

nope.....sorry, you have done EXTREMELY well with the booking, which I'm guessing is a first. And you will find many references here to the fact that no booking fee applies to "these sort" of ASAs booked on the phone. Nevertheless even the more experienced of us are getting caught by this. You will be able to have it reversed. :)

Interesting. Do you have a reference to this on the Qantas site? I'll give them a call tomorrow to pull them on on that. Avoid every fee I can!
