Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

I flew QF446 on 25AUG13 and noticed exactly the same thing. Weekend flights are usually worse for this kind of stuff as a higher proportion of pax are leisure travellers than during the week. For some reason they believe they need to take everything + the kitchen sink for an interstate weekend sojourn.

Having recently completed my first flight survey as part of the QF Feedback Panel I made this comment and suggested that maybe a little more checking might be required.

I think the size of one's luggage is usually inversely proportional to the number of times they've travelled, although there is the lovestotravel exception rule.

Epic fail this morning in QF589! Although I put it down to only 1 FA boarding a very full 763. Called boarding, then delayed it for 10 mins then commenced boarding.
Probably some drama this morning somewhere but all the PB pax having to wait while a lot of other pax boarding is not a good look QF.
All signage in place at gate 22, not sure about calls as I was in the lounge until boarding was slowly underway.

[edit] the poor guy boarding us was doing his best and he even managed to get a 'Welcome back Mr Boogs' which I thought was excellent service in the circumstances.

Friday QF529 BNE (gate 20) and yesterday QF546 SYD (gate 12) both worked perfectly. Arrived midway thru spiel J and plats are invited but most pax make a dash to queue and did in their respective lanes.

I do have to say most of my disappointing PB have been when a flight is boarding late and all have left lounges so you have up to 30 J and Plats (maybe some gold?) in PB lane.

Last week MEL gate 22 - was useless.

Signage off to the side,
Announcement was accurate, but everyone just piled into both lines and ZERO enforcement by the gate agents.

Qantas - it only works if you enforce it!!

SORRY but what the hell is so hard about PB. It seems that QF have failed to engage staff in enforcing it or QF Staff dont give a Rats Axx either way its been years now. If it was my company and my staff failing to follow rules and regulations on a regular basis then I would solve the issue for them ......... SACKED !!!!!!!

Well I think there will be a lot of posts on this thread in the next 2 days :D. Who's a betting person...will they be fail or success :D

QF609 BNE *live report*

We were a little kate to the Gate 17 and boarding had already commenced. As we didn't have a J seat, Travel Guru and I boarded in the general queue. Smooth apart from one pax who didn't have his BP out ??

Almost as silly as the story from Travel Guru about the hi-viz guy that didn't take out his laptop at Security -and he'c accessed the Priority queue

.

That is when priority boarding fails, when the PA starts and everyone rushes the gate.

Priority Boarding a complete success yesterday on both QF 863 ex OOL & QF 765 Ex SYD

QF574 ex Perth on Friday, first time I've seen a FA walking up the PB Q and reminding people who should be there, even eyeballing bag tags. Well done.

QF569 ex Sydney on Sunday, huge ruck around gate 10 prior to boarding call but once the call was made, the Q seemed to sort itself out. No policing on show but worked anyway.

2 flights, 2 passes.

3/9/13 QF632 MEL Gate 2

The boarding was delayed so we all stayed in the QC. By the time we arrived, boarding was almost complete and so we waltzed up the PB.

Interestingly, the PB queue was on the left (the opposite in BNE this morning)

This is the latest trick, call the flights in the J lounge so late that we can't complain about PB not working.

Nothing priority about being last IMO.

Not a new trick from my Adelaide experience. At one stage they even started boarding 10 minutes early and delayed the announcement in the lounge.

No, they didn't call the flight "late" - none of us moved quickly enough to get down there for the photograph. We were saying goodbye to two AFF'ers who were leaving around the same time and we took a while to say goodbye in the Business Lounge.

Generally when I am by myself, I like to get their for the initial announcement and shot of the PB line. So can't comment on whether a PB fail or success, in this instance. The only issue was the slightly confusing "side" - no that it made a scintilla of difference to us, we could have used either. :D

PB worked ok on my 2 flights this week. It was the other "PB" that was an epic fail both times - "priority baggage"

QF671 Melbourne to Adelaide. Two lines. Clearly marked. Two CSOs. Pass!
Just the usual hold up in the bridge :)

10/9/13 QF 739 SYDADL priority boarding worked perfectly. Sailed through the queue and straight on.

Just did a JHB-dbn leg with South African airways PB worked like a dream. Huge queue in non priority - small in premium. Everyone waiting - staff walk down priority queue checking boarding passes. Boarding starts - all of the priority queue boards then non priority - doesn't seem that hard to do.....just need motivated staff I guess. It does seem to be improving though doesn't it?
