[Rumor from QF CSAs] Qantas to bring back online mASA's?

I am still in discussions

Well that is at least a positive vis-a-vis the prospect of improved transparency in the longer term. Having burnt around 200,000 miles so far, now I just want to know whether I should keep going.

IMHO just book Classics. If you book Business you get lounge access etc, etc, you just don't get status credits or points earn.they generally costs less points & dollar contribution and more readily available. Don't earn points or SC's but I am coming to the realisation that is the way to go.
My wife and I are going to KL in October, was initially going to get reasonable priced ASA seats - too hard.. then thought about buying the seats - $ 3,400 each to get the points & SC's...right at the point of the ACCEPT button and thought..."this is stupid, spending nearly $ 7,000 for what ?"... so I simply cancelled, went back and booked Classsic award seats and I reckon I have saved heaps. We only fly O/S 2 - 3 times a year so Platinum really gives me nothing I don't get by booking Business anyway. We are going to New York in December which was going to cost us around $ 6/7,000 each depending on sales so once again I am chasing Classic Awards for those too.
THANKYOU Mr Joyce you have made me realise what a dill I was spending around $ 20K per year of our own money for a black bit of plastic that is aptly named WP.
I will still continue to push C/C points into my account and use them instead

You may be much more fortunate than I....

I have made good use of the JASAs:

  • the SCs can help with re-qualification (to WP) and
  • the points help with more awards

I value WP for quite a few things, btw. And sure, Intl J lounge is very good, however the Intl F lounge is a real treat Mrs Paddy and I have used several times. Same difference in HKG too.

Each to his own.

Agree with Paddy 55, but we want to know when ASA will be back online so this current time wasting fiasco will end.

thanks, I have too but just realising i jhave also been spending a lot of dollars as well. Would not even dare take Mrs S into the FLounge, bad enough having given her a taste of "up front"

Bump.

(Apparently I need to say something longer that that, though...)

Given that even some AFFers don't seem to have understood some of the better-value JASA options up until now, I find it difficult to believe that rampant exploitation is costing QF too much.

And the booking engine still refuses to perform many basic operations... so my money is currently on incompetence rather than conspiracy.

Most conspiracy theories are usually explained by good old fashioned incompetence rather than behind closed doors scheming IMHO

Except when it comes to us booking crazy routings and fares. Shrug and blame the incompetent TA when really you've been scheming for months to extract every last value out of the system ;)

For my 2c, in a way the whole thing is a distraction. It has also made getting status far too easy. Sure I've used/abused it but could have just as well made WP on my cash bookings - hell most of my SCs come from OW carriers anyway. I'm still not sure why the huge fuss, the overall devaluation of the program & breaking the website should be the main concerns. If they could just forget the flight search engine altogether and let us plug in stuff from ITA that would be great thx.

I don't see any "abuse" in using - it still requires payment in points (and maybe $$) to actually fly somewhere.

The only reason for the many indirect routing is that QF don't fly (enough) direct between some ports so those routings have been filed.

Right. I can't fly CBR-HBA direct even if I want to...

Perhaps our exploitation of M type JASA and FASAs has been a form of arbitrage and now QF are correcting for this. But are we AFFers a big enough block of loyalty to make a difference?

But are we AFFers a big enough block of loyalty to make a difference?

I hope so.

Even if not, I have one friend who spends a small fortune with QF on business, uses his points for JASA's for overseas family vacations, said other day he was livid at taking them off line as it was just so easy to research and book.

Hi

When (? if) MASA is terminated and the CSRs would just redirect us to the web for the new ASA, what would happen to the PUZX fare buckets ?

The current web P & P offerings - rebadged by QF as ASA - are quite expensive and obviously do not offer the PUZX seats, hence the dedicated phone line for same.

They are 'award' seats so what would happen then?

Care to speculate ?

'Enhanced away' ?

'Only available for points / op upgrades' ?

'Available for (? status pax only) to book without any SCs and/or points' ?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Huh?

They were award fare buckets before xASA's started incorporate them and I quite confident they will continue to be award fare buckets. (Also, Z, P and U are used for points upgrades)

There has been a delay in posting information as I am still in discussions, so hardly gagged or anything that painful. Hoping to talk to the RGM again today. Have a meeting now, so I won't be available until at least an hour.

Is that a humming and a "Gee" with a thump I hear?? Natives are getting restless

Indeed I do. Patience grasshoppers....

Firstly thanks for stating our collective frustrations to QF and offering to prepare a summery for our benefit. We the AFF grasshoppers are waxing on and off like true FF addicts looking for that verified source.

So I'm going to try to get an MASA booking on Monday. I can get a classic award, so would someone be nice enough to let me know "the language" I need to use to get the MASA? How do I tell if there is U availability and points required compared with classic?

And last question, why won't Qantas just revert to us doing all the searching ourselves? Sigh.

Reply to thread '[Rumor from QF CSAs] Qantas to bring back online mASA's?'

Every time I get one of these mails I hope it's going to start out "QF WP has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to..." :)
