To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

You may want to push back on that, as the T&C (20.4.1) don't specify capital city at all - they only exclude non-jet Qantas link - so any jet service is eligible. As you stated "mainline" then I assume you are on a jet.

There is no mention of a seat having to be available, and that is really rubbish, as the whole point of the benefit is to get a seat when one is not available. Ignoring the moral aspect, the benefit is to get you on the flight (an charge you a high price for a full fare ticket) and then for QF to handle the over sold position(which is why they insist on 24hr notice). Presumably they try and shift someone else to another flight.

They do keep the (e) "May occasionally have to restrict this facility", but it rather sounds more like someone couldn't be bothered with the work that would ensue having to manage the oversold situation, an it was easier to say no and fob you off with made up conditions which don't match the published situation.

I have found that the guaranteed seat purchase part of being a WP/P1 is effectively useless, as every time I have wanted to use it, there was some sort of weasel words to get out of it. Internationally, I would really want a guaranteed J seat anyway.

The waitlisted seat which I originally referred to (a QF mainline flight) cleared on the weekend anyway and the P1 SST gave me a call to advise me of such, which was nice (never had that before). The resulting Op Up to J due to the oversold flight was also nice.

My ten cents worth.
I have been a P1 for 3 months now. Benefits as follows

1) 4 domestic upgrades (over about 20 flights)
2) Being able to get a seat on an earlier flight when the ticket class is not really supposed to be eligible. (Major+)

Have had a few personal hellos what can I do for you (when in Y) would you like a glass of wine from J etc. But has died off in the last 6 weeks. Maybe there was a push on this aspect a couple of months ago.

It is worth it.......

Thats a great strike rate of Op-Ups, & picking your seat before other is certainly great.

It certainly is worth getting P1, I had a meet & great with P!NK a few weeks ago before her Perth show, thanks to the P1/loyalty crew, & was very impressed by it. There were 4 P1's in WA that got the invite, it blew my mind away just that one thing, on top of Op-Up's & Front row of whY everytime, i think its totally worth it.

Well I felt the love today with an opup for my SYD-BKK flight. It was very full so maybe there would have been an opup for somebody but I was very glad it was me. :)

I am loving the ability to book row 4 for domestic flights.

Hopefuly an upgarde to J on your trip to NRT will come your way :)

well... guess what!. it came through .. my first Op-Up QFi in many years... and the flight wasn't even full..

Suspect that maybe QF is watching AFF more closely than I thought.. !

Hey but I am not complaining. As long as they keep repeating this magic.

Thanks QF

Great news. Lets hope they keep coming your way. I know I feel the love when Op-Up's happen for no reason.

Got an interesting call from Qantas this morning:
"I noticed that you selected an emergency exit seat on your flight to Sydney tomorrow. A bulkhead seat in the front row of economy just became available. Would you like me to move you forward?"

Ummm... Yea sure, why not, Thanks for calling...

Taking personalized service to the next level or just a slow Monday at customer service HQ? I wonder...

With all the things P1s would like, and this is how they spend their time?

I think it's a great use of their time. I've had it happen to me a couple of times where I've made a late booking and someone from the SST has phoned up to advise that a better seat has come free - I really appreciate it.

How about devoting some of that resource (ie. $$$) to fixing priority boarding for a start......

Priority boarding has not been an issue for me recently. Either it works just fine or by the time I have sauntered over to the gate the masses have already boarded and there's no queue. Frankly, I am highly impressed that the P1 team are finding better seats for P1s. That's an *excellent* use of their time IMO and an *excellent* P1 value-add. I'll be mightily pleased if they do this for me on a full flight I'm on in a month's time where I'm sitting at the back of J.

Got some additional P1 service recently, too. We left Tokyo one night an hour late. By the time we arrived in SYD, we would have missed our connection, but a voicemail from the P1 team advised that we had already been moved to the next suitable flight. Proactivity - I like it. It makes our flight experience easier and better, and that's what P1 is supposed to be about.

I agree. By the time I reach the gate from the lounge, boarding is usually half way already and there is no queue at the PB lane.
The fact that the P1 team are using their time to find better seats, even in short DOM flights in economy, shows a very high level of premium service.

A similar thing happened to me earlier this year in JNB. The relaxation of the BA Flounge changed to stress when they announced that the Qantas flight to SYD is delayed and I knew I'm going to miss the connection to MEL. Not even 5 minutes passed and I got a call from QF. They told me that my flight to SYD is delayed and they moved me to a later flight to MEL. Awesome service. Then I could go back to relaxation mode.

I have just been elevated to Platinum One I got a call from the dedicated P1 team explained all the services and what they can do for me. Yesterday was my first flight as a P1 and the supervisor from the main cabin came up to me and said congratulations on your first flight as P1 then after take off the CSM came around and also said congratulations and said that I should celebrate with a bottle of sparking. Nice touch to made welcomed and the recognition of P1 status. Thanks QF

Congrats, im sure you'll enjoy the perks.

Out of curiosity, were you on a Domestic for this first flight? & did you receive an Op-Up? or were you travelling in J anyways?

The general talk on here has been first flight after WP1 recognition you get an Op-Up.

Agree same thing happened to me, they were onto mitigating delays before I was aware of them. What other airlines offer their elites this level of service?
