Blocked seats on QF

It is standard, across most carriers, that FAs who are non revving to or fro their station of work while fly in Business or First.

Frankly, as a pax, I have no problem with crew departing or arriving in a premium class on their way to or from work. This ensures they arrive to work fresh, alert and ready for a long sector. Equally so, after working possibly 9+ hours, I don't expect a FA or pilot to fly home in Y.

Hear hear.

Are we talking about Qantas office/management type employees or cabin crew?

Something does not quite sit right with me when I see the smug look of an FA sitting in business. It is worse when more than one of them are sitting in the business cabin and seated together. Perhaps they are saying it is now their turn to be pampered. I think it is arrogant and not a good look for business. Especially when the focus of the CSM is on the FA's and not the passengers.

As for normal Qantas employees I could not care any less what is written in their conditions. They should only ever have a cheap seat if there is absolutely no chance someone wants to upgrade or more importantly wants to pay for that seat. Want to go on holidays then pay the same as everyone else?

Aww, someone's got a bee in their little bonnet. It is no different to the businessman sitting next to you who's employer has paid for their seat.

J class for cabin crew is on a space available basis -. even on duty travel so if cabin crew are in J, they are there because nobody wanted to upgrade or pay for that seat.

Same for 'normal' QF employees although unlike duty travel where Y is confirmed as they are 'must ride', leisure travel never guarantees you a seat in any cabin on any flight on any day.

I know of plenty examples of employees who do pay for airfares the same as everyone else.

T-80 worked for me today, I have moved from row 21 to row 10 so far. Will keep checking over next day or so, but this is a good start.

Today at T-80 I moved from row 41 to row 26 in the 767 (three from the front) on the return leg. Starting to get the hang of this...

why does it affect you at all? What's the big deal? If I work for an airline I would expect a few perks as anyone does with their employer
Why are you worried what I think? Perks? Give them a bonus if they have worked hard.

I does not look right having staff in premium cabins. I do not see it on any other carrier. Perhaps they are more subtle about travelling in premium cabins.

There was a story on AFF a couple of years ago where a paying customer was supposed to be sitting in premium economy bulkhead on a LAX-SYD/MEL flight but was moved (to a middle seat?) so 2 staff can sit together?

It should never happen. Staff should never be put above paying customers.

You need to get out more then as it happens on airlines the world over.

I like an adjacent spare seat as much as most, but if I must have a neighbour, airline staff would be my first choice (after Mme. Thud of course). I can be fairly sure that they'll be be well-dressed and comport themselves with appropriate decorum.

Seriously? Some people are a tad precious. As long as you get the seat you have paid for, who gives a toss whether staff are occupying some of the other seats? On a recent flight from SYD to ADL, I had the pleasure of sitting next to a FA and half the J cabin was occupied by cabin crew. They were on rotation and had to travel to ADL to crew a plane at short notice. It didn't bother me in the slightest that some were sitting closer to the pointy end than me. The FA was telling me it works on seniority in those circumstances, some get to fly in J because they are higher up the food chain, junior FAs are down in Y.

Anyway, what makes you think they were put above paying customers? As Ozbeachbabe pointed out "J class for cabin crew is on a space available basis -. even on duty travel so if cabin crew are in J, they are there because nobody wanted to upgrade or pay for that seat."

I have been in Emirates J with half the cabin occupied by uniformed crew.

It is a wide-spread policy and best to focus your attention on more productive things...

Yep - every airline does it. Best to move on.

Some people aren't happy unless they're complaining about something I think. Logic doesn't work, you just need to let them shake their angry old man fist at the world a la Granpa Simpson.

VA staff get j on staff travel when available

Thanks for the correction, Aussie_flyer. Was that something that changed in the recent EBA? I can recall a heated argument between staff members at CNS (which was intended to be out of earshot of pax, but it got quite heated) where a staff member was firmly told that Y was completely full and he wasn't getting one of the seats at the front. This incident was probably ~18 months ago so I should have been less assertive when using old information!

Wouldn't the smart thing be to op-up a VA Plat or Gold from Y to J then onload the staff pax into the newly vacated seat in whY? That way everyone's happy.....sort of. :-)

You are really funny.
