Current F Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Sweety and sour duck laarb.

A bit of a kick, not colourfully done like I have seen others, but 8/10 for this Thai salad aficionado.:D

Missed out the new menu by a few days.. looks like MEL didn't get the wagyu brisket that was available in SYD.. that and the Bollinger (but we already knew they stopped serving it in MEL for some time now)

The duck larb and the chicken look different, these are from SYD a fortnight ago:

for all of you experienced f loungers, how strict are they on the 12pm start time for the all day menu, could I get away with 11.45am? thanks

I thought awhile ago it was an 11am start... Must have been mistaken as it is definitely 12 now.
There's a little flexibility there so you might as well ask!

there is an 11am limited lunch menu IIRC, but the full lunch is from 12

Chicken/Polenta

As a combination, quite good. Separately each did not work - 6/10

(5/10 Is a good rating for me)

That looks like a lot of polenta for little chicken, and if the polenta is lacking seasoning then that's just way too much polenta. Finally, that polenta looks like it has no body about it - just a mush pile.

no, Melbourne is the same in that regard

This is from a fortnight ago, believe what you want.
That is a polite way of saying: "you are wrong". :p

It appears the 11am start is a recent offering...

Also, look how *different* the "same" meals are when comparing his and my photos... take it any way as you may..

I'm pretty sure there has been a limited (maybe 3 or 4 dishes) 11AM start 'all day dining' menu for a few years. The majority of it, as stated above, is available from midday. (I'll add it is some months since I've been in a Flounge :( ) so maybe things have changed.

I believe it varies with winter having an earlier start time due to changes to daylight saving in the hemispheres causing earlier departures.

In winter QF flights from OZ to DBX/LHR/LAX/DFW typically depart earlier Australian time than they do in Summer as the landing slots in the northern hemisphere ports are less flexible.

i.e. Currently QF11 and QF7 depart at after 1pm today - in January it's after 3pm before the leave.

Anyhoo, I'll get onto the SYD Flounge menu later today. :D

I would presume that the start of all day dining varies between SYD and MEL, just like a few other things.
MEL F Lounge went to a full lunch start time of 11AM a few months back, I am not sure if it has reverted back now though? (I was successful, however, at ordering Eggs Benedict at 11:15am, when supplied with a lunch menu. ~April'13)

I have found the SYD lounge to be quite flexible in serving the squid and eggs benny well outside of the advertised hours.

Of course YMMV

Well, it may vary in MEL, but perhaps not in Sydney ...

Thanks serfty!

I didn't realise the squid was available from 11am as I'm usually there for either QF127 or one of the afternoon flights; never the changeover. Will grab that before my JQ28 hop to MEL on Saturday!

Interesting, the last time I was in MEL after midday was in November 2012 and the menu said all day dining starts at midday.

Have a few breakfast flights from MEL and SYD coming up, next afternoon visit to MEL won't be until September unfortunately..

Breakfast is available until midday, that's why you were "successful" ;)
