Have you seem that video of a Victorian (?) Public Servant with a Lanyard around her neck stating Justice who does a nasty rant to an Asian lady on the train? Her last words 'I'm not a racist as I hate everyone'. Only trouble is she started her rant by telling this person her son didn't want to sit next to a person of her race.

Regardless of who was responsible, any terrorist is loving hearing these stories. This is what they want. They want Americans to live in fear and cause disruption to their lives. Come on America you should be better than this. Don't let them win.

I would say they have won in a certain way ,our lives have changed forever in how people view different races , religions and how and where people travel .

Once (3 years ago) when i caught a smallish plane from the usa town of morgantown there were perhaps 30 people to go through security (only flight, small airport like narrabri). Out of the 30 people there were two arab looking young guys. In western clothes. They were pulled aside, body and bags thoroughly searched (bags opened and everything taken put in front of everyone) No one else was searched. They were local students and said to me it happens to them all the time and they have learnt it is easier and quicker to just say nothing and suffer the TSA. I was disgusted as it was so obvious.

The body was shown. He looks just like a uni student. I found the scene was quite disturbing. He was a murderer and now dead but I just felt sorry for him. What is it with that. :(

as much as it pains me to say it, it looks like Alan Jones may have been not completly wrong earlier in the week.

Just hope we find out why. They were so brazen in that video they wanted to get caught. Let's hope they've left a trail.

You're human. Nothing wrong with your feelings and indeed if more people had this empathy then maybe criminal acts would decrease.

He was somebody's son, sibling, friend etc. Let's hope that whatever went wrong somewhere along his upbringing can be determined and hopefully be used to prevent it in the future.

It's on CNN that they are brothers and chechnyian origin. Scholarship winners etc. they could most certainly be us citizens and are local students. They could even have been born in the USA.

One thing about travelling is that it brings the news closer to home. Watching the footage of Boston I could relate to it because I had been there and it was familiar.

I'd walked down some of those streets. I've visited Harvard where the current events are unfolding.

It makes it seem more real. Bad grammar I know but...

Yes. Indeed. Yesterday they were showing the street I crossed several times during our trip a couple of years ago. We also toured the Institute. And Harvard.

From AAP

"They came from the Russian region near Chechnya, which has been plagued by an Islamic insurgency stemming from separatist wars.

Before moving to the United States, he attended School No. 1 in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim republic in Russia's North Caucasus that has become an epicentre of the Islamic insurgency that spilled over from Chechnya.

His world view is described as "Islam" and he says his personal goal is "career and money."
