One comment a friend made ... "very Essendon" .... and looking at the red stripe across one of the tops I can see why, good thing there's pink on the other side of it.

I like it. Nothing is going to be "wow" to all people, but to me it look good. The pink is the obvious stand-out that takes some getting used to, but its bold and makes a statement, without being over-the-top. I look forward to seeing it in person.

Agreed.

Looks great.

Big step up.

I must admit, I was expecting something more. The cut is lovely, very elegant, but they look a little corporate 101 and I'm quite troubled by the pink; for one, I can't fathom it. If it is as has been reported that it is a nod to the designer's pedigree, then I don't think that's appropriate -- it should be about the airline and the nation, rather than the personal signature colour of the individual designer. That screams ego and I'm quite surprised QF allowed it.

I have to say that they remind me nothing so much as the uniforms on a sci-fi show I used to watch as a little boy called 'V'. Not sure if anyone remembers it from 30 years ago!! Let's hope AJ comes in peace!

Still not seeing any picture of the French Blue

I'm pretty sure the uniform isn't orange either. so whats your point

Staff get to pick the pieces they want to wear. So for all you kind hearted people that are concerned, the fat ones won't have to worry about fitting into the trench coats.

Like Virgin?? The only thing half close to Virgin is the scarf. Aside from that they are nothing alike!

Well, to be fair, isn't the one-piece outfit for the ladies virtually the same cut? Just that Qantas have gone for a tri-colour concept, whereas for Virgin it's all red. The Virgin belt is slightly thinner from what I can tell.

Then again, most airlines probably sport much the same cut of dress.

I fail to see how this is "cheap looking" compared to, say, Virgin, or whatever bar you choose as the "LCC" bar or whatever. I mean, we had people saying that the old Qantas uniform looked like it came from an op shop, or it was assembled a la The Sound of Music, from old drapes. (Personally, I think that's quite insensitive to the origin of the pattern, which is a homage to the Indigenous cultures). I have no idea where people are going with this whole "cheap" looking thing. I mean, it's not like stock standard polos and slacks.

How the scarf is supposed to be worn and tied may also be a point of differentiation.

As for men, well, like most other airlines and like pretty much every single business man in the world, it's basically the typical penguin outfit. The only main accent and differentiator is the tie.

Love it. Don't mind the pink; it's fresh and different.

I love the flash of red on the trench coats with the kangaroo on it too.

The hat I'm not so sure about mainly because it will probably never be worn unless it is a requirement.

Some navies and blacks are quite hard to discern from one another without a significant contrasting colour next to them. Mr Katie has some navy trousers that in certain lights we need to use black trousers/fabric next to them to validate the colour. I also do this sometimes when clothes shopping as under the fluoro lights I can't always see navy from black. And I do *not* wear black. It is not a (non)colour that suits everyone, even if some fashionistas from drab dreary severe locales might suggest the LBD is the saviour of humankind.

My point is that I haven't seen the true colour yet.

Indeed. I've had work trousers that are navy blue and sometimes (due to light) it would be hard to distinguish from black trousers. Only made that mistake once tho. (Lets just say, certain colours of shirts do not go with navy but do go well with black...)

Will be good to see them once they are in the air and wearing them every day.

Does anyone know when al staff will be wearing the new uniform?

Cue Edna Mode

I never look back darling. It distracts from the now.

It's fashion (for an airline uniform). It's bold. It's different. It's a little unusual. The Loubis should be de rigeur, darling.

Would we care this much about Coles, Woolies, CBA, BP Petrol, the assorted Emergency Service departments or Gloria Jean's launching a new uniform? Would they even bloody well bother with a public *launch* of their uniform?

There must still be glamour associated with travel Whena uniform change is launched like this!!! :)

Trials on certain flights start towards the end of this year, then the complete rollout from early 2014.

I've considered using a washable marked to mark the tags with N for navy/blue and B for black. There are also certain colurs of shoes that in current fashion terms typically go best with navy than black. I understand the dilemma. ;)

Easy to distinguish when they are next to something that is actually black
