From the Velocity website ... ' [h=4]Limited time only offer: Earn Status Credits on Reward Seats[/h]For a limited time only, you will be rewarded with Status Credits when you redeem your Points for a Reward Seat with Virgin Australia*.
Simply redeem your Points for a Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight and travel between 13 January and 30 June 2013 to take advantage of this exclusive offer. '

I am sure you are all aware of this promotion, but i was wandering if anyone knew any good ways to maximise the amount of status credits to be earned in this offer. I have 23,000 points at the moment, and am Gold, 260 credits shy of Platinum, hoping to chase the upgrade (my review date isnt for another 10 months). Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Book some reward flights in J using pts, with multiple stops (eg MEL to SYD via ADL).

Quite confused, as i found LST-MEL-CBR for 13,900 in J (288 miles + 309 miles) only 3 miles under the 600 -13,900 for J reward according to the points table on the Velocity website. But when i search MEL-SYD and look at the flights with a connection in CBR , even though its less than 600 miles, the reward price is not 13,900 but 20,700! Help?!

Looks like you found one of the remaining cheap 13,900 pts J flights ;)

VA have been cleaning these up over the last few weeks and making them all 20000ish pts.

They're still out there - snagged SYD-CBR-BNE in J the other day for 13,900 :)

Buy flexi fares and call up to upgrade. Check before buying the flexi that there are available J award seats for that flight. I've done that for all my VA flights since the promotion began and have been credited with J status credits every time.

Before you book a J sector LST-MEL-CBR, be advised that LST-MEL doesn't have J class. You would only be getting a Y class fare so no J points. That would probably be the big difference in the point requirement...

Forgot about the lack of J in LST-MEL. Found some SYD-BNE via CBR still for 13,800, which scores me an easy 80 status credits! Any one found any other routes ?
Cheers

Once you hit plat, you can pick J seats out of LST on economy fares :)

I travel to LST quite a bit, and really enjoy this new extra little perk.

Why do they operate a plane that has J seating on this route if they don't sell J?

The entire jet fleet has J, so unless they downgrade all LST services to ATRs (or F100s from Alliance) they don't have much choice.

Also keep in mind that they run with one less FA when J is not sold. So it's not as stupidly inefficient it might initially seem.

Exactly as Fruitcake says.

It's called standardisation.

Why not sell J cheap ($299) on the route? If they dont sell any then they dont sell any. Is it because of the costs of having to have staff and catering where they usually won't sell much J?

Is that 80 S/C each way or total for return journey ?
