Any thoughts on this? In a similar vein to the crew base in London?
Would QF look at this? Would it stack up economically?

I can see some flexibility improvements (ie. dxb has become their "gateway") but they never went for one in sin.

Thoughts on this? Haven't seen it come up in discussion around the EK/QF partnership or the BA/QF "split".

I am sure they would have reviewed this option already.

Crews would be cheaper out of DXB and would be IR contentious

But surely a base in LHR would be considered equally "IR contentious" yet that got off the ground (ka-boom-tish).

I briefly mentioned this in the large thread with out response. The change apparently has a massive effect on the British crew as they are going from doing the long legs to the short legs. At least according to a CSM on one of my flights at the end of 2012.

So pay implications due to less overtime or whatever they get. As such it seems to me that a crew base in DXB would be more logical as it then gives flexibility in both directions. Still if they didn't do a SIN my logic could be faulty.

I think it's highly doubtful for now, they didn't put one in Singapore so I can't see them putting one in Dubai.

If/when they start flying to Berlin from DXB with the B789, then it becomes a serious proposition.

Actually my understanding is that they will actually earn more than doing back to back Singapore flying. LHR don't get overtime per hour but band payments. The longer the duty the higher the payment. SIN and DXB fall under the same one so they get the same amount of money. They will sometimes also have a longer layover in DXB than in SIN attracting a higher allowance. Because DXB is shorter hours they will be able to do more trips also increasing their pay.

There are only four flights out of DXB. SIN has 8 flights a day if not more at some point and there was never a base there.

There were 4 flights ex BKK for a long time when the BKK base existed, dont thing the # of flights is a major factor, more likely labor cost, another reason I suspect DXB would not be likely given the lack of local low cost talent available.

What 4 flights where they? I only recall in the time of the crew base QF1 and QF2 using Thai crew in Bangkok.

Thats the four flights, inbound and outbound being two flights same flight number.

I call that very creative accounting. That said if I recall the Thai crew only ever did the London trips, with the London crew no flying to BKK (only doing the SIN flights) and with Aussie based crew doing flights to/from Australia.

No, the Addecco Thai crew did both LHR and SYD bound legs, often positioning to the do NRT and FRA (via SIN) legs as well. Not sure what you mean by creative accounting, a flight in and out under the same flight number is two flights no matter how you count it, especially given the crew will be different.
