ASA vs Full revenue tickets

Are any seat awards have the same availability as full revenue tickets?

e.g. economy, premium , business and first.

In theory yes, in practice no, as there are places you cannot get an ASA that you can get by paying cash.

Do note that those xASA's purchase in the non classic award far buckets can cost a horrendous amount of QFF points.

They still earn FFP's and SC's so not exactly.

Yes, they use the same buckets.

And although not always the case, typically with more favourable conditions for changes/cancellations/etc. than a classic award, but YMMV.

I am yet to see a ASA that is cheap not book into a classic bucket in my experience, as for it being more favorable, that as always depends on the fare rules of the fare, some overseas JASAs are terrible compared to classic rules (no refund etc).

My remark was stand-alone, not regarding fare buckets as I agree with you.

I have found *most* JASA and FASA book into full business or first conditions, or bus/first saver with a $60 change fee, so some are more flexible than classic, and others aren't. There is also no telephone service fee on a JASA/FASA in my experience, where you will get slogged for classic even though change fees are waived on J/F itineraries.

As you say, you must check the fare conditions with an ASA as there are some nasty gotchas.

Agree, 100% of my JASAs have been in U.

Are xASA's priced according to the ticket classes of the remaining available seats (ie: points + $)?
If so, what are the cheapest ticket classes for Y+ and J fares (assuming you can then search EP for availablity)?

Since learning about xASA's I've only once booked a classic award instead of a Y/JASA. In all but one instance (which was last minute and the classic award had no equivalent JASA) I have found the xASA to be a better option in burning my points than a classic award.
