I hope this doesn't change the 1:1 points per miles for BA flights from Aus to London through Singapore....I'm booked on one in September

My understanding is that is part of the JSA and terminates March 31.

If you look at the retimed flights, I see the problem with the Asian codeshares being the lengthy layovers enroute from Australia to LHR (with the exception of QF5). Some of these will be as long as 7 hrs (eg MEL-SIN on QF then SIN-LHR on BA).

Just goes to show that Qantas cannot win. The have them early they miss LHR connections (though really this should be moot as Qantas services will go through DXB and if you are having a stop over in say SIN you get extra time). If they time them for connections to LHR then they miss Asian connections. So as I said it wouldn't matter what they did someone somewhere will find fault.

I wonder if BA are now going to allow members from Australia to join its FF scheme (they're website currently says you now must join QF instead). Would be a good time to roll that out.

Also what pricing benefits do flyers get through flying to LHR with QF (sorry, i mean EK...). If i look at BA pricing from PER-LHR (which hasnt been updated for the new schedules from PER yet) for Nov, i get cheapest fares in Y at $1,727 versus QF/EK of $1,792....dont see any benefit in landing fees out of DXB....

This and the end of the JSA feels ominous for our Europe trip in April with BA and QF (on BA codeshare) - in terms of lounge access and earning as a QP member.

And in this instance (if the article quoted in the first post is to believed), it seems that "someone somewhere" finding fault is BA ;)

Hi,

In terms of Qantas altering miles earning rates, status credit benefits etc see the terms and conditions:

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

Clauses 3.2 and 3.3 are the relevant clauses and note that the clauses change on 30 April - that magical date again.

I think the amount of status credits that you earn and the number of points you earn from flying BA is a benefit provided by Qantas and therefore they will have to give 3 months notice under the new clause or 6 months under the old clause. Qantas may argue it is a benefit being provided by BA and therefore only have to give 30 days notice.

Note that by sending press releases and statements to stock exchange that the JSA is ending is not adequate notice for the FF terms. The members must be told in accordance with the clause.

Personally I think if we have booked BA tickets under the current rules then those rules should be honoured.

However I see it getting very messy indeed and there may be a class action coming through the ACCC if Qantas doesn't treat FF members right. I also want my BA lounge access through QC membership but that is another thread.

Dale.

Under the JSA its a benefit provided by BA to match the benefit provided by QF on the same routes, so its 30 days.

I imagine that what we are getting in the AFR, is BA's spin on things.

If I were EK, I would have demanded from QF, as part of the deal, that -
  1. they cease & do NOT code-share on any IAG metal on any flight between Europe and Asia
  2. they cease & do NOT code-share on any IAG metal to any destination in the EU to which EK flies
  3. they implement a carrot/stick strategy to get QFFers onboard with the latest viaDXB version of QF's kangaroo route, and out of a mindset of connecting through SIN, BKK & HKG. (Not to mention KUL.)
...and this be implemented as soon as the deal goes live.

So, I think that IAG is simply posturing about the removal of QF codes from its flights, to make it look like it's running the game, for its own domestic audience (and the AFR has got caught in the spin from the crosswind).

I think it is very arguable that it is a benefit provided by Qantas. You need to look at the situation from the perspective of a QFF member and their relationship with Qantas. Qantas gives you the points, credits the points to your account and it is Qantas that publishes the earning table. The JSA is a private business relationwship between Qantas and BA and may determine who actually pays for the points but from the members point of view it is Qantas providing the benefits of points.

Examples of benefits provided by third parties would be things like recognition of your platinum status, lounge access provided by others.

So I think Qantas needs to give the longer notice.

The stupid part is their lawyers must be very dumb. I'll admit I am a lawyer but Qantas should have given the notice already reducing earn rates etc to comply with the notice provisions. If the Emirates deal falls over then you can add benefits with no notice at all so things can be restored quickly. It is taking things away that needs the notice.

Qantas is trying to have it both ways by keeping the terms until the last moment but they will really damage their goodwill doing that potentially.

According the the earlier quoted qantas notice 1 is going to happen.

2 is unreasonable while qantas operates to LHR. Such a demand means that anyone wanting to use QF codes from LHR to CDG, for example, would go via DXB.

3 - well that's part of 1 really.

BA have come out and stated the AFR article is not correct according to the Australian:

QANTAS and British Airways have dismissed claims they are at war over codeshare arrangements and that passengers using their combined services to Europe through Asian hubs may not earn frequent-flyer points.
Both airlines agreed yesterday they were renegotiating agreements on routes to and from Europe but Qantas said the changes were flagged when it announced its alliance with Emirates last September.

Just like the negotiations between BA and QF regarding the access for QC and QFFers into the LHR T5 Galleries Lounge?

That was one example I used in another thread explaining why I was more cynical of announcements these days until its in writing at qantas.com

It was Galleries access (more specifically T5), but yes it was renegotiated even it it wasn't to the favour of QP members.
