QF's Asia announcement

curious why they need to change the QF127 asa?? the MEL-SYD 0600 flight arrives 0725 which connects with the retimed 127 at 0955. I am doing the same flight but connecting up from melbourne (separate tickets though but all on QF). The only thing I got was the re-timing notification (which is all I'd expect on two tickets - but it's certainly an easy connection... fingers crossed/touch wood...)
Thinking about this and looking at loadings, it seems likely he was moved to re-accommodate refugees from the defunct QF87.

20 minutes ago he received the second notification today, moving the flight to the new 9:35am departure.

yes, could be, especially since it was a through booking. I'm guessing in business class not first.

the cancellation of one of the hkg services now explains why all business and first class redemptions were suddenly blocked. I'm guessing this was to reaccommodate pax.

I am on the Melbourne QF29 to Hong Kong with a double status credit offer in J. I am leaving from Sydney to maximise SCs and I really dont want to catch the 6.00 am connection from Sydney as this will eliminate any time in the Melbourne First Lounge and it is a tight connection anyway. I will be interested to see how they accommodate me. I am also returning on the Hong Kong Perth Sydney flight which was also selected to maximise the double SC offer.

And anyone wanting some F lounge time using the SYD-ADL leg in place of a domestic flight......

I'm booked on QF81 SYD-ADL on March 30. I will have a glass of champagne as part of my mini-wake

(I previously said it was the last, but it looks like it's appearing on April 6th again. It didn't show when I checked earlier)

Surely in somewhere like Perth, ek and qf should operate a joint lounge like BA and QF do in BKK

Looks like QF have not delivered on the "key benefit" of the relationship with EK, focusing on Asia. ADL cut, PER reduced, SYD-HKG reduced, no new cities and no commitment to A330 upgrades. An QF wonder why people don't trust their brand any more!

I am not sure anyone believed there was any benefit, with the except that QF can continue to cut routes and hand them to competitors.

Of course some will fly on EK, and that is the goal, but some will go to MH or SQ etc etc

I also thought the A330 J refurb to flat beds was going to be announced today.. But of course QF is just "looking at it"

Same as they are "looking at" expansion with the 787-9's

I'll believe both when they are officially annouced

Even China Southern has started flying almost fully flat beds to Australia recently

Well done QF in yet another step towards becoming a domestic only airline, with the odd flight to the USA

Does QF even need to take the remaining A380's they have on order ? Hand the production slots to EK and order a few A350's for JQ........

I'm totally peeved. :( We had a direct flight Singapore Adelaide JASA booked after our month away. Qantas don't know how we are flying back now. This trip was booked before the Emirates announcement and we are actually flying from Dubai - Singapore the day before. Not a sniff of the tie in when we booked. HATE transiting through Melbourne and Sydney. Better book us in Business Qantas. And please just tell us what is happening.

ADL has been Joyced.

Hmm - I don't like new timings of direct flights into Asia. An earlier flight to SIN or HKG now means getting up at 6AM to get to the airport, not that much time in the F lounge either (and breakfast rather than lunch menu as well).
Yes - we've just received a schedule change for our Hong Kong flight in Aug - we were already planning to overnight at the airport, so not too much of a biggie, but it means choosing between sleeping in or a massage.... breakfast at the F lounge comes first :)

Qantas Corporate just emailed me with their "Network Improvements as Part of Asia Strategy".

Dear Archphoto,

As a valued corporate customer, we want to update you on the changes that Qantas has announced to its Asia network that will deliver more seats, improved connections and a greater range of options when flying to Asia.

From 31 March 2013, Qantas will retime flights from Australia to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok and increase dedicated capacity between Australia and both Singapore and Hong Kong. Business travellers will benefit by arriving earlier in Asia, rather than late at night, with improved connections across the region.

Tickets for bookings under the new schedule will be available for sale progressively from Monday, 4 February 2013. Customers with existing bookings to Hong Kong, Singapore and Frankfurt, for travel from 31 March 2013 will be reaccommodated onto alternative flights.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact our Corporate Sales team on 131 085.

Seriously, your "enhancements" aren't so great - seems you're only interested in the Eastern States of AU and are indicating to anyone living west of the NSW/VIC/QLD border to suck it up and choose to fly with anyone other than QF. If this is their "New Asia Strategy" - it's not looking so great right now. . . . .

Just when your competitor lets off an exploding cigar in their own face thanks to a poorly implemented Sabre transition then QF jump in with this press release. Translated, summarized, simplified and de-spun:

Qantas ASX Announcement - Qantas Enhancements to Asia Network

- Abandon the fastest growing state and city in Australia making it impossible to fly between Perth and Asia
- some vague promises of code sharing with other carriers
- Dump all our QF customers onto inferior 3K Jetstar Asia once in Singapore for connections to Asia
- Dump Perth and Adelaide loyal Qantas customers and deliver them to SQ CX & EK
- Sabotage our relationship with MH (our newest and sponsored member of OW)
- Sabotage connectins through SIN for anyone whom had the temerity to consider flying our OW partner BA to London
- Drop our most popular and profitable market segment of Premium Economy to some ports
- Prevent Flounge runs on QF81
- Returning some A330's from JQ to QF now that they are ageing and becoming expensive to run
- Pie in the sky promises of QF operating 787 services to some places at some point in the future

-Oh and ignore all our previous announcements about our SIN-FRA service - its annoyingly popular and profitable so we may keep it running until our next press release.

What a lot of blah. As a valued customer we have just screwed Adelaide people and made them spend an extra four hours on top of what should have been a six hour trip. And not even guaranteed them the ASA ticket as it is "subject to availability". What rubbish. How dare they call them enhancements when they devalue the product.

Yup, I agree.

Flying to BKK with QF - better pray there are no delays with the 6am flight - cause it arrives at 8:25am for that 9:40 am connection. What flights *are* they harping on about to easily connect to because it arrives earlier? There are so many airlines flying in and out of BKK at any one time - you'd be hard pressed to *not* be able to get an onward flight to Asia.

Oh and the EK alternative?? They're kidding right? Arriving at 1.10am the following day - I'd have to be crazy or desperate (or maybe both!;) )

Quite a strong rumour going around that QF will pull out of PER for all international flights, would not be surprised to see ADL also go!

Looks like the rumor was not far off the mark, how long until the last service is chopped a la QF81?

Will be a sad day if the national carrier stops serving all state capitals. :(

The not so national carrier when it comes to international.

I thought some time ago that QF would eventually be reduced to a domestic carrier with a couple of A380 flights to LAX/DFW and to LHR via SIN. Other than the SIN being transferred to DXB, things still look to be on track.
