Hi all,

My Mrs Qantas club partner membership is up for renewal 31st Jan.

Question is will she be charged the joining fee again if she renews a couple of weeks after expiry (15th Feb for eg.) in peoples experience?
(Please don't post a link to the T+C's I know what is in there I just want actual experiences) ;)

Only reason I ask is a few years ago I was a Qantas Club member and my membership lapsed, somewhere in the month after expiring Qantas sent me a letter saying that if I renew before xx date (I think it was 1 month) then they would still waive the joining fee. Anyone had this happen of late?

for memory i believe they give you a month, but I would call them.

you can renew a membership for $570 for two years, see how you go.

QP are normally good when it comes to delays in renewals.

I've been told, officially, by the QP SC is if you let your membership lapse (say it expired 3 to 6mths ago) - you can rejoin, but specify that your renewal is to be made from the date of original expiry - but you have to go through the Service Centre to do this. Sure, you might lose a few months, but better than forking out the join fee again.

They let you have some lee-way, but it doesn't extend the membership at all (backdated) so it would only be useful if you have a specific reason- tax, salary packaging etc, rather than no flights booked in the in-between period.

This is an old thread, so hopefully I don't annoy anyone by reanimating it.

I'm a QC member and have been since 1989. I've been paying for Partner membership for my wife for most of that time. Qantas has not sent a membership reminder notice to her since 2013 (I know, I archive all my emails). Sometimes we forget to check. Then her membership lapses. When she needs to use the QC lounge we find out it has lapsed and have to pay a rejoining fee.

Every time we contact Qantas they say... "We did send you an reminder, check your spam filter". It's never there. This morning, the agent said "it's not Qantas' responsibility to send you reminder notices". Are we the only ones in this position? Are they scamming for another $200 each year. A strange way to repay loyalty.

Well yes of course I could. I was merely trying to find out whether we are the only ones not to get a renewal notice. It also seems odd to me that there is no follow up, when most corporations owed money will at least send a reminder to find out if you are going to pay, rather than just assuming you won't - especially after nearly 30 years of continuous membership. If we are the only ones not to get a renewal notice then it is a glitch not a systematic plan to screw more money out of partner members.

I let mine lapse but was able to rejoin later without paying the fee. I know it was at least a few weeks gap. Gosh. Question asked 5 years ago. :o
