I understand the end result.

I do not quite understand why HHonors have included the Facebook clause for the bonus points. I guess I will never understand.

OMG!

Rule of thumb - if you have a cancellable booking which you intent do replace, never cancel it until AFTER you have booked it's replacement.

You only put yourself at unnecessary risk of not getting as cheap a rate in the first instance or indeed finding the property sold out and no longer be able to be booked at all.
