Found this new offer on the Jetstar homepage this morning

The Jetstar Price Beat Guarantee

Very similar to the "Double the Difference Voucher Guarantee" in terms but offers to beat other airfares by 10% instead.

This promotion is valid for bookings made November 23rd 2008 to February 23rd 2009.

Both the promotions are running and you can pick which one you want to make use of (although the Double the Difference Voucher Guarantee is currently stated as running only until 31 December 2008)

I was looking to book flights for next year under Jetstar's Price Beat Guarantee, but was told when I called them that currently this promotion is only available until 31 December 2011 so these flights were not eligible.

When reading the terms and conditions more closely. it states that:

"This promotion is valid for flight bookings made to 31st December 2011"

I was planning on making a flight booking prior to 31 December, but travelling after 31st December.

I think flights for next year should be covered under the current t&c's. What do others think?

It should be eligible. They usually extend the deadline for flight bookings very close to the date that the promotion ends. I have definitely booked flights before the deadline that departed after the deadline. But it has been a while and apparently they are not in Malaysia anymore? So there might be a whole new bunch of "customer service agents" who don't know what they're doing.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For anyone that wanted to know, the Price Beat phone number is manned from 6am to 10pm AEST.

How do I know? Because I just tried to call at 10:10pm

Is this normal for a Jetstar price beat guarantee?

I just made a booking for two people via the call centre using the price beat guarantee.

Prices were:
JQ - $159
TT - $69.95

Near the end of the call, I was asked for payment details for the TT fare less 10%. So far so good.

However, when I go into Manage My Book on the Jetstar website, the booking information shows the JQ fare at $289 per passenger, with total booking amount being $604. The screen also shows an amount owing of $454.74. The difference between $604 and $454.74 is $149.26, which is the amount being processed on my credit card as per the phone conversation.

I have yet to receive the itinerary. Should I be concerned about the $454.74 showing as owing on the Manage My Booking screen, and does that amount represent what JQ has to foot for the price beat guarantee.

BTW, the agent processing the price beat guarantee was a first timer doing it. She had to refer to her supervisor a number of times.

Re: Is this normal for a Jetstar price beat guarantee?

This is normal. In a couple of days a credit will be applied for the price beat and it will all zero out.

Re: Is this normal for a Jetstar price beat guarantee?

Thanks for the quick reply. I was just a little concerned since it's my first price beat booking and the screen is saying the booking has not been finalized because of the amount owing.

I have rung the price beat guarantee twice this week for JQ flights beating Tiger fare. First call answered in 5 mins, reservation processed within 5 minutes, nil credit card fee. second call two days later, answered within 30 seconds, processed within 5 minutes, no CC fee. Both calls were answered by the same guy actually, he was extremely efficient! Very impressed.

Now all we need is to be able to add FF points and SCs for a minimal fee (minus the flexibility provided by the plus bundle).

that would be great. I received my itinerary by email but can't access the booking on manage my booking. it does come up if i attempt to online checkin though, although it says it is too early to check in at the moment.

Website still showing june 30 as the last date for this deal, hope they extend it as they have been doing.

I also used the price beat guarantee for flights on June 29th, returning July 1st for 3 of us.
The guy I was dealing with on the phone said he hadn't done one in ages which meant he was a little slow, but basically knew what he was doing, just sounded like something he was out of practice for a bit. Made me think that it's one of those promotions which they have that sounds great, but wonder how many people actually use it.

I use it. Love price beat. No credit card fees either (although now I have a Jetstar credit card)

I just did a PBG booking for late December.

After going through a few questions, the extremely efficint operator simply stated the fare would be $40.50 SYD-MEL - I was not even asked who's flight(s) I was matching against. (There are quite a few $45 fares going around.)

I guess they are getting quite used to TT pricing.

BTW, the call was answered ~2 seconds after the recorded spiel.

Not quite as good as my two $9 flights on the w/end..

Call was answered quickly, but two weeks later still no Itin and still showing an amount owing.
Second call needed to get that fixed...

Interesting the confirmation, and a reconfirmation I asked for online a few hours later both went into my GMail spam account - amazing that Jetstar isn't whitelisted

I love this facilty.

I see TT flights advertised at, say, $54.95 MEL-SYD far on TT. This $63.45 fare if you pay by CC - you get one piece of carry-on luggage for that price up to 7kg.

A JQ Price beat fare would be $49.46 - that gives 10Kg carry-on and there a no further charges, including any CC or convenience fees, a saving of $14.

(Just noticed some $45 fares floating around - that $40.50 MEL to SYD all up.)

I used it last week to great avail for SYD-BNE and BNE-SYD. but when I went to use again for some flights in March, I found there was no longer a Jetstar flight within 1 hour of the Tiger service. It seems Tiger has dropped to 2 flights on some days and they don't match the JQ flight times. So QF was the next cheapest (was not willing to send Mrs NM on TT flights).

this has happened on HKG-SIN recently also, Tiger has retimed all their flights bar the 6am departures to avoid the 1 hour window :(
