So - inspiration came today to look at a run for Feb, just for the fun of it seeing as I'll be in LOTFAP.....

Part of it is xLAX-xORD-xEWR with the ORD connection at 0:35 mins !

The booking is on hold and the system has let it through (well not ticketed yet)........

Would anyone here actually be game enough to do it?

If the ORD connection is early in the morning after a red-eye then you should be fine (They tend to arrive early more often than not).

Yeah ORD isn't too bad to get around. Very long corridors where the gates are - but one end of the airport to the other should be doable with Carry-on only. And if you misconnect, well AA will re-accommodate you somehow.

Good point - ORC is your friend ;)

But the re-accommodation may be in Y and not in F cabin.

ORD can have some pretty coughpy weather in Feb though.

2 years ago my flight CLE-ORD flight was delayed 2 days, and then I ended up spending o/night in ORD before flying on to LHR.

AA paid the accommodation and provided meal vouchers, but that part of the US isn't the most interesting place to be at that time of the year.

For me it would depend on:

a) whether AA have other flights to my destination that would still get me there in F on the same day. Sure ORC are fine but I wouldn't want to endure whY on AA if there was still an F alternative.

b) whether I have booked a non-refundable rate at the hotel at my destination eg the IC SJU breakfast for a penny rate.

C) hand luggage only pax need to remember that you really need to be at the departure gate at T-45 & board in the first group to have a fighting chance of getting overhead locker space.

Oz,

Who said anything about SJU..........

(whistling whilst looking innocently around the room.......)

That said...... I didn't make it to the Bacardi Factory last year ;)

there is no way i would risk a conection at ord in winter with 35 mins. For YUPPs I usually leave a minimum of 2 hours between connections, or a one flight buffer - by this I mean I assume i am going to miss my connection and they can put me on the next flight and I can still get to the next place in time to continue my flight after that in F - so even if you have to fly coach for one leg, you will still make the next flight in First. So if routing SJU-MIA-DFW-LAX-HNL I will have taken every 2nd flight for each of those sectors - not the first one i can.

I have been stung with bad weather before and missed connections. Never again!

I tend to agree with the main issue here, which is the fact you are trying to make the connection in winter. If you're not worried about missing the flight then having to fly in Y on a re-booked flight then no problems.
Personally I wouldn't risk it. Spring/summer/fall yes but winter no, especially through ORD.

As others have mentioned ORD in Winter, and a tight connection..don't be surprised if you mis-connect.
On the flip side as a WP, you should be near the top of the pecking order when it comes to re-bookings.

the top of the priority comes because you have booked what is considered a full fare coach ticket, which beats just about everything else, even an AA EXP who might be flying on a more discounted fare. The YUPP also gets you #1 on the stand-by upgrade list (unless you have a AA top ties also on a YUPP - which from my experience on an ORD-LAX flight with 40+ people on the stand-by is fairly rare).

I have been auto rebooked due to irrops - the pace to sort it out is in the AAdmiral's club where they work wonder.

I took OBB's idea from another thread and I think I'll just land in Vegas, meet up with a friend for a cpl of days, leave my bags there and start the run from LAS rather than SFO. That should give me some extra connection options.
